subject line says it all. Curious how many of you guys had fork work done and kept the stock rear shock and how happy you are.

I hate to do this if I'm going to have to drop another $1000 on an ohlins rear to be happy.

I was fairly happy with the stock suspension but need to work on the forks anyway, so I figured it might be a good time to upgrade.

IMO the biggest difference you will notice is getting the front sorted. On my VFR i had ohlins springs way before my ohlins rear and it made a MASSIVE difference. On the 954 it was all done at the same time.

You can do the front only. The springs are way too soft. In contrast, the stock shock is sprung on the stiff side, for passengers, so you may be able to get the correct sag with the stock shock. However, once you get spoiled by how wonderful the front is, you'll start saving for a shock! :)

Once I got my bike balanced and dialed in it has been a much sweeter ride.:thumb:

Really a loaded question as it really has a lot to do with how much you weigh and how you are going to ride the bike...

Short story for me...the DK work made a good improvement, but really only made me wish I could raise the rear... :cool:

If I could do it over again, I'd throw springs in the front and buy a rear shock...more overall bang for the buck at the pace I ride...faster guys ymmv... :twocents:

Strangely everyone talks of springs but I had the RC done and Thermosman left the stock ones in. He also set it much softer than I would have thought on preload. I cranked up preload and wound up dialing it back down (likely even more at Barber). I think valving has a big impact and sometimes people use preload for issues that could be accomplished with damping :idunno:

Oh and do it you will be amazed at how much more stable the front gets.

Getting the forks done is well worth it even if you are running the stock rear shock. I ran Dan's forks on the track for years before finally getting a used Ohlins for the rear. One thing that was really better with the Ohlins in the back was tire wear. Another was just that it had a nicer, smoother ride, both on the street and the track.

I would agree that probably the best bang for the buck to be just to respring the fork, and get a used Ohlins for the rear.

The going rate for a used Ohlins for a 954 on eBay would be about $500 to $600. The fork springs themselves are about $100.

Do it. I had the front done and left the stock back due to my budget. The stock spring rate in the rear was also close to correct for my weight so I wasnt in a rush to change it. Talk to DK....he does great work.

One thing i did notice was how much less tyre wear there was on the edge after a trackday!
