What's the difference between a 900RR & a 929?

I'm confused because the guy who sold me my bike told me it's a 929, but then it turns out (via frame stamp) that's its a 900RR, which I didn't realize until later.

I'm Totally happy with the bike, but confused over the Model Difference... So far it seems that I can put many 929 parts onto my bike (Sprocket, Filter, etc) which I bought unwittingly for the wrong model.

Thanks for any help,

What year is it? I belive that if it is pre 2000 then it is a 900RR if after it is a 929(2000-2001) the 954 followed(2002-2003) depending on geographic location, people may still call your bike a 900RR when it is really a 929RR
Hope that helps :idunno:

1) "All of them (900RR, 929RR, 954RR) have "CBR900" in their model number.

If it's a 2000 or a 2001, then it's a 929. 2002 or 2003 it's a 954. Before 2000, it's a 900."

Wow, that's screwy! Mine is a yr 2000 and say's CBR900 on the Tag... Mechanic started my confusion by saying it's not a 929, it's a 900.

Ok, so then this means that my seller actually sold me what I thought I was buying... suppose that is a good thing.

Thanks guys,

sounds like the mechanic is an idiot. The official model name for them (on the frame tag) is CBR900RR (except the Erion Edition 929 which is a CBR929RE). If its a 2000 then its a 929. You can be positive which engine is in there because on the side (I think right side) of the engine block it will tell what size it is, 929cc

The real difference between a 900rr and a 929rr is that the 929 is the sexiest 'blade of them all. :sex:

Note to Al: find a new mechanic!
+1. I have the same bike and the frame tag says 900. BFD, I know its a 2000 929RR. Besides that fact that the 2000 is a clean sheet redesign from the 900RRs.

Are you guys kidding?
A 929 is injected as is everything that came afterwards. A 900 has carbs.
along with a new frame, swing arm, engine, bodywork, gauges, wheels(and a 17 inch front), and the list goes on.

Over here in the UK there are plenty of 900rr's registered in 2000. Frame number is the best way of checking.
The "new" blade with fuel injection that was launched in 2000 starts with a frame number of SC44A and over here it's known as the RRY

As a math teacher I can tell you that the difference is (29 over RR) between 900 and the above equation. :hmm:

Hope this helps :thumb:

I think I've become a :pwhore:
I think you are correct about being a post whore but mistaken in your math.
929 - 900RR= X ; where X is the difference.
You now have a 2 variable equation and therefore cannot solve for X without more information. However, keep in mind that the 929 is properly called the 929RRY so if we rewrite the equation it is
929RRY - 900RR = X
900RR(1.0322Y - 1)=X
Since we all know that there were a great number of differences added to the "Y" edition Fireblade Y must be very large. We can say that for a sufficiently large Y value, the difference approaches infinity while RR > 0.

BTW, did you hear about the constipated mathematician? He worked it out with a pencil.
