Depends on what you mean by best.

Cheapest or the most services?

Becareful, some of those really cheap services *lease* you the domain name after they register it, meaning you don't really 'own' it perse.

A real Registrar won't pull any tricks on you like that all.

If you are looking for a place with a solid reputation (the client list is THICK&#33 then go to:

Alldomains.com

I'm a customer but I don't get any referrals. They run specials from time to time as well. You can probably do some price negotiation too.

Good luck.. say... what domain name do you plan to register?

Thanks guys....got my domains registered.

Just curious though....
I wonder how many of those places use their 'search' craplet as a mining tool for valuable domains to register themselves.....LOL

Ha.. do ya think? At just a tad over $6.00 wholesale registration for C/N domains.. it would be sort of costly and if someone was a real phalis they could really put the hurt on a registrar by searching for all sorts of werid stuff and getting them to register it.

Actually, there is plenty of money in transfering and renewing domain names these days that registrars really don't need to go and look for domains to squat on.

With over 800 different gTLD's and ccTLD' to choose from... big corporations need to spend BAD MONEY to keep them selves protected from infringing and slanderous domain names.

I have another follow up question for you whiz kids...

If there is a registered (but unpublished) domain out there that I am interested in purchasing, what is the best way to go about it. I tried making contact with the address I found using 'whois', but have been unsuccessful...

Any hints, tips....?

If you want to aquire a domain this is stagnent or dead you should look at a domain snapping service.

The company I consult for, of course, offers this service. PM me if you want more info.

Unfotunatly I was not really able to say anything until this morning but if you need domain services this is the only company you should spend your money with.

Really, I've been in this industry for a long time, I've seen them come and go. If you are looking for the cheapest outfit.. don't waste their time. But if you have a domain (brand really) that you need to nurture, protect and grow... there is none better.

Best place to manage your web assets.

Thanks for the info Holeshot....

How does 'domain snapping' work?
Is it something to pick up a domain that has lapsed?

Yeap. Automatted system. It's all very proprietary and you need to have access to the info (zones) but that's really not any big deal (for the common ones).

It's a weird service industry.

I'll see if I can track down the info on how that all works.
