anyone played it yet? I played it last night. have it running on a p4 3.0, 1024 ram, 9800 pro radeon. its on my 110" screen and in 5.1 surround. its really scary, made me jump many times, hard as hell to.
I played a demo about 4 months ago...struggled a fair bit on my 2GH 768MB Radeon 9000 laptop. Even at that stage of development the game could scare the hell out of you.stegen said:anyone played it yet? Duct Tape Mod...Hell, I'd settle for duct tape. Come on, duct tape is god's gift to mankind, they must use something similar don't they? You mean to tell me that with all the technological advancements in the game, no one thought a roll of duct tape could be useful??
Man, that was one heck of a review. I don't even own a PC at home but Doom 3 has really caught my attention. I remember playing Doom 2 for hours on end on our 486 when I was younger. My brother and I used to serial-link my dad's laptop to the PC and play frag-matches all the time! That is, until GoldenEye came out for the Nintendo 64.asiliat said:I can't believe no one has talked about Doom 3 here yet.

I think Half-Life 2 will be worth jumping back into. Tell your wife that it's one of those "experiences" one must have, and not merely some dumb computer game.
installed it. tried it. lame lame lame lame lame.
ok so it's pretty, but it's also pretty boring. the woo-it's-dark-and-scary thing lasted all of 2 minutes. now i'm just irritated that i can't see where the hell i'm going, and there is no way to be stealthy at all because everything just jumps out at you from about 4 feet away with no warning.
and it's very claustrophobic.
anyway, i guess somebody will like it, and it does LOOK really cool, but it's just kinda weak. plus my GOD how lame can the pistol sound? the only fun i had was the first guy i killed. after that it was pretty clear that a headshot and a shot to the foot made very little difference. well it was also a little bit fun to beat one guy to death with my flashlight, but the novelty wore off immediately.
i'm quite disappointed. maybe i'll try again this weekend, but so far it's just weak. it kinda feels like they tried to replicate the opening feel of half-life, but did not succeed.
ah who am i kidding, i'll play some more right now. i'll try to like it.
nope tried it again. i hate it. the shadows and stuff look freaking AMAZING but the game sucks. i should have not opened it. oh well.
That's how I'm feeling too, except for the first time last night, it scared me. I was in a yet another dark corridor, having just killed a bunch of baddies, low on health, trying to reload my shotty, when all of a sudden, I hear "uuuuuuuuh" from a lowly zombie.
Made me jump.
I am starting to like it a little more because after your expectation has been crushed, the rest of the game ain't bad.
The game is half-life/System Shock 2 wannabe, story is not as engaging as System Shock 2, and the AI isn't as fun as half life.
