Anyone have any thoughts on Dunlop D220's? I've searched the forums and haven't found much, but a few people have mentioned them without any gripes. I've found a set for $225CDN, but was also considering Pilot Powers or M1/M3's for $350+...

Would you say the D220's would be alright for a guy starting on a 929 this season (coming from my EX500, a conservative rider)?

The D220 is more like a Pilot Sport or even Pilot Roads. A D208 or it's successor the Qualifier is more comparable to the Pilot Powers. Ask other folks further north than me but I would think a softer combound might be better for the cooler weather (Pilot Power/Corsas/Qualifier types)

the 220s are a sport/touring tire. No where comparable to the Power. The power gets insane grip, but lacks life. The 220 has a lot of life, but definatly not track type grip. What do you plan on doing with your 929? When I go on multi-day trips, you can hear me crying in my helmet tearing up my $450 tires. But when I go to the track, I wouldn't ride on much less.

Well I definately won't be hitting the track (too rich for my blood, :crap:) and as far as agressive riders go I'd be low on the scale... Not a knee dragger or wheelie nut, I'm just after something that won't freak me out as I'm new to the 929....

If it helps, I spent my last 3 years on a 92 EX500 with stock Bridgestones and never had a concern with it...

I think the 220s would do you well now. The only concern is are you going to get more aggressive since you have a more capable bike? Once you spoon on a set of 220s, you're set for 15k or so miles. They are pretty capable street tires though. I think you'd do fine on them.

Cool, thanks for the info! I figure I might get a bit more agressive as I get more comfortable, but I'll be slow to get there... I'll probably want to flip to a more agressive tire by the time I chew up the 220's :D

And if it does not have one get a steering damper (hide protection is always a +)

Uhm, yes and no... It came with a Daytona junker with a bent rod, the previous owner bent it when the damper slid in its mount and jammed.

I was thinking about getting the rebuild kit for it (apparently it's about $50) and having a new mount made for it that fits properly, but the cost of that plus the rebuild probably won't be too far off of a good used one?

:plus1: on the 220's. Liked them better than the 208's (for different reasons).

I'd run them all day on my Bandit, and due to the torque and a crap OEM shock, I'd go through 2 rears to one front, but they'll last pretty good, and when they start going off they warn you.

If you're using it for sport touring, go for it. But, if there's even a little aggression in you.... (and mind, the 220's can take more than a little and be okay)... I'd be remiss not to point you towards something stickier, as there is no replacement for you health. 220's warm up quick, and not just for a ST tire, and they are confident in the wet- though there are better. When ridden on hard, they can wear pretty quick, but not as quick as a full SS tire.

If you're looking at a full-sport tire, then I can only recommend what I'm using now, the BT014's. So far they've been great, and they aren't bad in a drizzle.

I just ordered them yesterday before I left work, they should be here early next week. From all the comments these should be great for me, and while I'm running on them I'll keep my eyes open for a deal on SS tires so I have a stickier set for when the D220's die or I start to get more agressive than the tires permit.

Hey and to top it off my fiance just gave me an Ohlins damper mount kit for Valentines, so now I just have to find a decent used damper from any bike and I'm good to go :D
