I made this account for one reason/well 2 reason's. 1 being I'm a diehard Blade enthusiast. With 2 BLADES in my stable, 01 929RE also 03 954RR. Main question, and I know there's gonna be some hater talk. But I've searched for 2 years both online and dealerships. Trying to solve the mystery behind the 00-01 honda 900RE/929 rarity or production # made. Lots of talk stating only 2000 were released. Majority of info backs that theory up. If true my JH2SC44501M100002 would mean its 2nd bike. Why would AREA 450
30601
Be stamped on every part on the bike. Headlight, gas cap, each peace of fairing swing arm both mirrors, both forks stator cover ETC. Curious does this mean anything. My thought, would be to prove the bike is all original "matching numbers" per say. Please HELP!!

I am rapt to find another enthusiast as keen as me to unravel history on these. I'm fairly sure I have none of that Area 450 stamping on mine.

My VIN is ......M102140.

I note yours has white wheels, not sure if they were an option or have been done by previous owner.

I'll re-post tomorrow after having a closer look at mine.

Third pic is after fitting pillion seat cowl.

Where else is it stamped???

My guess is it was stamped after manufacture by a previous owner? If you search the 30601, it's the zip code for Athens, Georgia US.

Or or was rebuilt with parts from a junkyard. Those 2 stamps are on the same piece :idunno:

Interesting mystery!

Good call, Ian. It could well be an early form of Data Tagging, before the indelible inks became popular. I'm not sure if 2001/2 would be about right, but I have never seen or heard of this treatment in other forums.

There is also a disturbing element to Area 450. Could this have been a perimeter housing of Area 51. Were some bikes sent to Roswell?

No the same number is on headlight, each peace of fairing, bottom of each fork. Both sides where motor mount/frame sliders bolt on. Ankle guard plates. The mirrors every possible part has that stamp. I've read that Canadian vin# have 450 and american vin's I believe have 440 not 100% but there slightly different as well the Aus vin's. My conclusion is AREA 450 would possibly be related to the vin#. I just want to know if the bike has any value. I've come to believe that it was done at factory, maybe to document if anything was altered. o 20190509_192506_1557612572609.jpg 20190509_192506_1557612572609.jpg

Everything I've researched about these bikes. From the early production ones had the magnesium coloured frame. While later ones came with shiney black frames. Built 10th month of 2000 another sign of being an early production bike aswell. I've got the bike from original owner. I've asked if he had it done for insurance reasons. But he stated he did not.

I think a definitive answer would come from Honda head office itself in your country. I have found in UK at least, that Honda Corp holds a surprising amount of information on their product.

It seems strange, especially if the original owner didn't do it, but did he say he bought it like that from the dealer? Maybe the dealer did it?

Maybe the mystery isn't as special as we want it to be? Hopefully someone will figure it out :nerd

So in the car world, I guess some stamp all the "original parts" of a particular vehicle to verify its a "numbers matching" vehicle, meaning all the parts on it are original from its manufacture. I would then guess that this dealer or owner or someone wanted to catalogue each part to verify its original. Is there anything on the paperwork anywhere that has those same numbers on it?

I am far from an authority, but I have never heard of Honda doing this. (I worked as a Honda mechanic in the 70s.)

It really smacks of a anti-theft security coding, UNLESS there's a very vague prospect of the bike having been put together as a first run or prototype. But then, why??? The 929s were already in production. We all know that this bike is really only a sticker job or dress and sell - in other words: a Kardashian Honda.:grin:grin

As was I in the 90's, and never saw it either.

If the PO didn't do it, then who did? In the US, we can take our VIN's and put it into "hondanet" and get the original selling dealer, "in service date" aka date of original sale, engine number and if the Honda Care Protection Plan was added. Maybe that's worth a try to see what the print out says?

Okay, how's this for a long shot?

Could it be that the bike erroneously found its way to the Mexico/Brazil or Australian markets and was tagged there, before being returned?

I guess we can speculate all day and all night. I stand by my previous: @2ndErion900RE should contact Honda Canada or Honda USA whichever is the case.

Thank you, for responding to my topic everyone. I did receive a document when I purchased bike. If I can locate where I put it. I recall it states the dealership where bike was shipped, and that it's a (CAN) Honda 900RE. But I'll call Honda Canada tomorrow morning. I'll keep you guys posted. Again thanks for everyone's input.
