I searched posts and didn't see anything, sorry if this is a repeat...

My fan will not turn on, and the temp on my 2000 929 runs up to 270f, and coolant starts spewing! Normally, I've never seen it top 216f.
I checked the fan and its wiring, all looks fine to me. Nothing frayed, melted, or disconnected. How can I test the fan?
Any ideas? could it have anything to do with thermostat switch?
I have 12k miles, nothing should be crapping out yet...
Fire back anything I should look for, i got the whole thing apart already. thanks.

Fuses ok? Thermostat ok? Fan getting power? Does the fan work when jumpered?

Fuse is fine, I need to test the fan still with jumpers. How do I check the thermostat? Crap like this isn't supposed to happen to Hondas! thanks.

I would focus on the thermostat. To check the thermostat, jumper the two wires that come from the thermostat together with the switch on. The thermostat is wired through the ground wire so simply connecting them will close the circuit and the fan will come on. This is also how you can put a manual switch on the fan.

And remember, Honda didn't make the thermostat, so it can still fail.

By 'thermostat' I'm assuming you're talking about the temperature sensor that tells the fan when to turn on, not the 'thermostat' that allows the coolant to flow into the radiator at 180 degrees. Is this correct?

The first thing I'd do is check to see if the fan motor works, then go back from there. I think that's your plan, so I'd say you're on the right track.

There is on wire going to the thermostat switch located on the top left, front of the radiator (as seen from the angle of sitting on the bike). Unplug this wire and gound it to anywear on the bike. Make sure your key is turned on. This will start your fan. If your fan DOES start then your thermostat switch is bad. Buy a new one from ron ayers. Don't buy the gasket also. The switch comes with one.

I think I'm getting somewhere, i appreciate it guys.
When I pulled it all apart on Sunday and looked at the thermostat switch, I don't recall any wire being attached or plugged into it. The tip of the switch is a metal tab that looks like it could be a plug... where is this wire coming from or going to that is supposed to be attached to the switch? This could be my problem....if it fell off, i just have to find where the hell it fell to.
I'm looking at schematics on partsfish, I don't see any wire plugged into the switch...

I need to stop being cheap and buy a damn manual, anyone wanna sell me one? thanks!

the same thing happened to my blade around 12000 miles, and it was the fan fuse. Double check it, 23,500 miles on my '00 blade and the only thing that ever failed is the fan fuse.

Maybe check to see if the fan can turn freely. I once had an obstruction (bent fan sheild) that kept the fan from turning so it immediately blew the fuse when it came on. I replaced the fuse and it blew right away. That's when I noticed it was blocked from turning.

i checked every fuse in the bike, all fine. I already took the fan out, cleaned it. Its spinning perfectly, looks in perfect shape, all wiring is fine. thanks....

You found your problem. Find the wire that plugs into that switch and you will fix your fan. Without it that fan will never run.

Damn that is hot! I don't know where you were (Traffic?) but I would have been busting a move to get that thing up to speed to cool it down. That almost seems damaging to have got it that hot

Yeah dude, have you ever seen your temp guage start flashing? it tops out at 270f then it starts flashing. I was sitting at a long ass traffic light and heard the coolant sizzling and then saw it dripping, then i looked at the gauge flashing 270!!!!
thanks abnormal, guess I gotta find this wire. It must have come unplugged and fell back somewhere, or melted somewhere.

I had the same problem this weekend. I went on the MDA ride, and was surrounded by 350+ harleys, and about 30+ streetbikes, and we never broke 35 the whole 3 hours!!!!

I thought the fan used to be loud, but all i hear now is a very tiny noise, I am going to look at the fuses right now.

Yep, you gotta have the wire. It comes from up above the rad in the harness.

I just checked mine, and all seems well, and the fan blades turn on like clockwork. Is there more than one speed on the fan or is the fan really quiet? I could have sworn that it made a lot of noise when the engine was off with the bike turned on. I guess it could have been the old f2............any help?

Thanks Gentlemen, I'm back on the road. I have no clue how this happened, but this was the problem: The metal tab on the thermostat switch was all bent, and the small plug and rubber boot that plug onto that tab were also mangled, and they were not connected. The wire had fallen down behind the rad. Once I fished it out, bent it back to shape and got it back together, it was fine. I have no idea how that thing could get damaged or fall off, but that was the problem.
