When I bought my bike it had one of those keyless gas caps. I don't like the idea of not needing a key to access my fuel so I bought a locking gas cap cheap on ebay. The gas cap wasn't sitting flush so I wanted to remove a bit of the rubber ring on the inside. Well I broke the rubber ring. Now the cap sits flush but I know the rubber was a sealant and now there isnt one. Moisture, water can probably get into my tank now. I know the tank has a small drain system under the gas cap but dont I need that ring?? I know alot of the keyless gas caps dont seal with the tank.....they just cover the hole. Isnt the system pressurrized? Do I need the rubber seal?

The system is not pressurised but the tank should be sealed.

could be wrong but I would think without that ring if the tank was full and you leaned over it would drain fuel all over. Might make for some cool fireworks though...

Hey Blade know anyone that can machine parts?

Also, braking and accelerating could result in itchy nether regions :)

Sure thing Doom but not in your locale :)
Have you tried Home Online Machine Shop Fabricate Custom Parts Instant Pricing?
Download their CAD software, draw what you want and it'll even price it for you including shipping. Only useful if it's fairly simple though.

Im in school for Precision machining. Use manual lathes and Mills everyday! No CNC yet though. Ive made things like footpegs for friends and brackets, simple stuff.
As for the gas cap I am going to make my own gasket and glue it to the cap..that should work right? Get an Oring the same diameter as the busted one...little superglue...should be good...?

Really depends on what it is and the time frame. I have some personal projects I need to do but not till the end of the semester. And most of all it depends on the part. I can knurl (small diamond plate-great for pegs), I can heat treat as well. material is free if its basic steel, brass or aluminum but stainless is expensive. Anyways tell me what you have in mind, maybe draw it out on paper and take a pic of it if the part doesn't already exist. I have a degree is mech design so I can draw in autoCAD and Solidworks.
