OK...

So I'm fit, working out four to five days a week. I eat pretty well most of the time and carry relatively low levels of bodyfat. I am a non-smoker, don't drink to excess very often, am an incessant hand washer and typically get enough sleep each night ... and still I wind up with at least two or three whopper colds every winter season. One is kicking my butt now. :whine:

To any of you who might take herbal concoctions and/or multivitamins, do you find them to be worthwhile? Any recommendations on what and where to buy? Stick with name brands or generics from places like Wal-Mart?

:allears:

TIA,

Chain

I exercise 5-6 days a week, too. The only supplement I take is a TwinLabs Daily One cap, and a Viactive Calcium (hey, a girl needs her calcium! Osteoporosis runs in the family). I don't find an increase in catching colds if I don't take the vitamins. Doesn't seem to matter one way or the other, it seems, at least for me. I got a mild case of the flu for the first time in my life this year, and I wasn't doing anything differently. I used to get flu shots when I worked at the hospital, but I haven't gotten one the past several years. I may get one next year, dunno. Personally, I'm not in favor of sucking down massive amounts of supplements. I think you can get too much of a good thing.

2 or 3 a year  I just got over an extreme cold and it was the first of that magnitude for me in 20 years. One a year is a lot for me :thumb:

That said the ecanasia (spelled wrong) seemed to help as did a vaporizer with stuff poured in it. Good luck.

It's all in your head...you ever notice that people who say that they always get sick the third week of november ALWAYS get sick the third week of november? I have adapted this way of thinking and have not been sick in 3 years...I know that it is not a "true" remedy but, it has worked for me. :idunno:

Go to a good store, or online shop, and look for a silver coloid. I used to purchase some called Liquid Silver. That stuff kicks A$$, and also worked for burns, and a bunch of other stuff. Also, if you get a Vitamin C....make sure it's Ester C, it'll not mess with your stomach, and your body will get more absorbtion from it than regular vitamin C. Some things you just need to trust me on Chain :D

Best bet is a liquid vitamin supplement. It will be absorbed better than any pill or capsule. Surely your department has a wellness initiative and personal trainers right?

I take NOW Special Two. Once a day. Not the best but a fairly inexpensive half way decent supplement. Liquids get costly and I'm not really a health nut, just a very active sorta fat bastard with plenty of energy and I might get sick once every 3 years or so.

Look for Celated amino type vitamins, they are absorbed into the body better than other pill types. The dosages are very high but remember that even plant based green superfood type pills, like the one I take, is only absorbed into the body at a fraction of the actualy dose. That would explain the bright yellow urine for the first piss of the day after taking the vitamins. :smilebig:

Ask some of your supercop buds and see what health food store they use and which ones give a cop discount. Talk it up with some of the people in the shop, a few of them might actually have some helpful information. :thumb:

Good suggestions here guys, thanks for the help.

I'm heading to bed now, 4 o'clock in the afternoon CST. Ugh, I'm beat.

Zicam And Nyquil works for me
My boss swears by Zicam also to reduce the duration and severity of colds. I haven't tried it yet and hopefully won't have to any time soon though.

Enough sleep, stress reduction and regular cardiorespiratory exercise are crucial to maintaining a strong immune system. Most people know these, but most important of all is to attain a proper acid/alkaline balance. The body should be slightly on the alkaline side. How is this maintained you ask? By eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables! Raw ones preferably. A big salad and a couple of pieces of fruit a day should do it. It's easy to find internet sites with charts showing different foods impact on acidity. Basically stay away from certain white foods like white flour, rice and sugar (but not women). Sugar btw has been shown to have a especially bad effect on the immune system for a number of hours after its ingested.

Chain, get well soon. A big cold in a big head must be a bad combination.

As soon as I start to feel like I'm getting sick I start overdosing on vitamin C and eccinicea (sp). I haven't had a cold or flue in the 7 years I've been doing this. I also take a daily multivitamin, vitamins B,C,D (winter), Calcium, and Glucosamin.

Echinacea helps. I haven't tried the Zicam yet, but hear it's really good.

Just make sure you pound the fluids and take plenty of Vit. C. If you end up with any kind of infection, i.e. sinus infection, eat some raw garlic. It is one of the most powerful antibiotics known to man. And a hell of a bit cheaper than prescription anti's.

I will seek and find you . . .

I will take you to bed and control you . .

I will make you ache, shake and sweat until you grunt and groan . . .

I will make you beg for mercy . . .

I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I leave you ....

And you will be weak for days.

All my love,

The Flu
(Now get your mind out of the gutter and go get your flu shot!)
