As the title states, I am going to look at a supposedly pristine 954 tonight. Other than the obvious stuff, is there anything that I should specifically watch out for? I won't be able to ride it (at least not tonight) so it's only a quick look and a listen.
Oh, and I am really excited...it's hard to concentrate at work! :freebird:

Oh, sorry. It's an '02 Red/Black with 65xx miles.
The only thing that he said it'll need is new tires by summer. Judging by the pics, the tires are not too bad, but replacing them by summer is a good idea.

Hope the bike is as pristine as you imagine it to be. 6,500 is nice low miles for that year (depending when the current owner actually bought the bike). It might be worth finding out whether the tires that are "needed by summer" are the originals or the second set. If they are the originals then the bike has probably been ridden very carefully. But overall you should be able to tell by looking at the bike, the surroundings it is kept in, and talking with the owner.
I hope it is what you want, and it is sitting in YOUR garage tomorrow!!

Try to find crash damage, check the fairing bolts and generator cover. Rim edges and so on.

Crashed or not, it's probably a good bike. Just get it and drive carefully!

Thanks, I'll definitely ask about the tires. I know the current owner hasn't been riding much in the past few years due to work, wife, and child. I won't be able to take it tonight, as I'll be driving my Honda (Accord) there to look, but if it's what I'm hoping it is, I'll go back and make an offer next week when I can ride it. :eyebrows:

Well, I went to look at the bike (he is asking $6300 BTW), and it was, as advertised, in pristine shape. That is, in terms of the plastic. No scratches or chips anywhere.
However, there were still a considerable amount of bugs on the bike from the last ride (which since I'm in WI, I would bet $$ was in the fall of 2005). Also, the back tire was pretty worn, but not dead yet--probably needing replacement by summer. The front...well, let's just say that I actually asked him, "Is that safe to be riding on?" It was completely bald in the middle and on the left edge.
Not to mention that he said this was his 3rd rear tire...in 6500 miles. Um...
Me: "So, do you, uh, do a lot of burnouts?"
Him: "Well, I'll be honest, it's not like I've never done one" :rotfl:
The bottom and the top of the hugger was caked with rubber bits, and the undertail was also covered in rubber.

Now maybe I'm expecting too much, but here's the way I see it:
Anyone who:

-doesn't clean the off the bugs before they try to sell their bike
-doesn't clean the rubber off of the entire ass end before they try to sell their bike
-tries to sell their bike with 2 sh*tty tires
-Asks $300 under DEALER blue book for an essentially stock bike (CF bits, 2 bros pipe)
-Lists the bike at $6300 obo, then tells me once I'm there that the price is pretty firm after telling me that he's been trying to sell for 2 years :rotfl:

...isn't really serious about selling their bike.

Nice guy and all, but I think I can do better. What do you all think?

i got my 02 954RR for 3000 in the middle of last summer with only 3200 miles on it. minimal body damage from falling over in the garage. the previous owner had it for almost two years and only put lik 600 miles on it.

I bought my 954 rr with 3700 ks on it for 12.5k australian, and just sold it with 21000ks for 11.5k but with a devil carbon zorst. Good condition apart from the obligatory stone chips.
And it had knackered tyres too.
Gives you a ballpark figure anyway.

Yeah, I'd keep looking, too. If he can't be bothered to clean it up prior to showing it to interested parties, I'd wonder if he bothered with routine maintenance, you know, important things like changing the oil on a regular basis...
