I got a letter in the mail today from UH stating that since I met some qualifications... yadayada... super genius... I've been accepted into the Golden Key International Honour Society all for the low one time payment of $xx. Does anyone know if these people are legit or is it something like the national dean's list where they're just trying to sell me something?

Website

I dunno, i guess it sounds kinda prestegious but I have a Groucho Marx mentality when it comes to clubs.

That's what it sounds like to me. They do however, have a local chapter at the university like it was a club or frat. Members also receive $75 off any Princeton review for the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT so the discount is actually more than the membership free.

Geico even would even cuts me a break for being a member since they sponsor em.

But I guess nobody here has ever heard of them? Wether it be good/ bad/ joined? *sigh* Hard to know when people are trying to help ya or just want your $$

Actually there are literally tons of Professional (and non-professional) associations that receive discounts for everything from hotel rooms to life insurance. SAE, AES and SMPTE memberships/fellowships for instance can get you a very good rate on term life insurance, home owners insurance, auto insurance, Redwing tickets, Casino perks, rent a car rates, hell you name it and someone offers a discount for it.

Not really. 'Friends' are the people that try to help you of their own free will, their own volition, without expecting much/anything in return; that's one of the reasons we call them 'friends'. 99.99999% of everyone else only 'helps' when there's something, or much, in it for them.

Simple rule, really
