Semper Fi, fellow Devil Dogs! Happy Birthday! And a great many thanks to not only those fellow vets that have stood before, next to, and taken the place of me, but to those who didn't serve, but appreciate their freedom and make our efforts worth while.

Yut!

I somehow missed out on the required 4 hour long formation with a cake for the Corps' birthday. Turns out the rest of my battalion went to Las Vegas for our ball. What did the Corpsmen do? We stayed in the rear because we had to run our PRT.

The courage, conviction and bravery that started with the first patriots that resulted in the creation of a democracy and allowing true freedom for all under our flag, has continued on through the past 231 years; and still continues today as it will for centuries to come.

I tip my cap to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for the country they love and who have provided my family and I the opportunity to live without fear of repression, being able to enjoy freedom of speech and the ability to worship without concern that we might 'offend' any governmental policy.

So to those veterans and those actively serving, I thank you one and all. :patriot:

This is a double post, well.... because people didn't make one big everyone thread. Duh.

The best of man-

To stand in harms way,
so that another may say:
"I am free and secure."

Is beyond what most understand.
This is a sad fact of most of man.
But for some, this sacrifice is pure.

It is human nature at it's best.
And a lesson for the rest:
That noble acts can be forgotten in a blur.

May us lucky to receive,
the benefits of those who leave,
never forget the humanity of their endeavor.

Soldier

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast
And he sat around the Legion
Telling Stories of the past

Of a war he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one

And though sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke

But we’ll hear his tales no longer
For this man has passed away
And the words a little poorer
For a soldier died today

He won’t be mourned by many
Just his children and his wife
For he lived an ordinary
Very quiet sort of life

He held job and raised a family
Going quietly on his way
And the world won’t note his passing
Though a soldier died today

Should you find yourself in danger
With your enemies at hand
This man would be found to defend you
Your children and your land

Thank you dear soldier
Your family and your friends
For giving us a soldier
That would fight until the end
