Hey guys, I own JWebster Custom Motorsport Concepts... I'm sure you have never heard of us before as we are a new company...

I am currently in the build of a modernized 1976 CB750F. It will have 2006 CBR1000RR inverted forks, a shortened CBR1100xx Monoshock rear swinger, a custom frame, complete carbon body work... etc....

I am going to be using 929rr, 954rr triples to hold the 1000rr forks on the bike.

My question for you guys is this... I can not find the 929 or 954 in any online parts fiche resources to find out if the triple clamps are the same throughout all of the years these bikes were offered.... Can you miss match top and bottom clamps? say a 929 lower triple and a 954 upper triple and visa versa?

are the triples from all the years of these bikes (929 and 954) all the same honda part number?

The 929/954 both show up under 900rr or 900re (erion) on the fische. The tail sections are different, but they don't show them being different, just tail 1 or tail 2. 1 is 929 2 is 954.

Here is a link to the top clamp. It looks like the 954 has a different top and clip ons than the 929. I don't know what has changed. I believe you can use either.

Here is the link to the lower. They are also different part numbers. If in ends in prefix 000 it is normally 929 if it is 751 it is 954.

according to that bit of information, It looks as if the parts have different part numbers.... What are the differences that are causing the different part numbers?

I'm not a Honda engineer, sorry. As far as I knew they were interchangable. I think the top clamp has a different look to it. Sorry I have a spare 929 one but not a 954 for comparison. Maybe someone who has swapped them will chime in.

so it looks like the 929 and 954 lowers are different....

But the uppers are the same from 2000 to 2002... then in 2003, they changed?

Can you still miss match uppers and lowers from 929 and 954?

I have a 2000 929 lower and have a line on a 2002 and 2003 upper.. the 2003 is in a better condition.. but i am not certain if it will work out or not...

has anyone here done this before? miss matched years and models?

Since you're using 1000RR forks why don't you just use 1000RR clamps as well? Or just run the lower clamp and make a custom upper clamp to suit the bike?
The 929, 954 and 1000RR lower clamps should be interchangeable but I've never actually tried it myself. I would think the uppers are also but I haven't tried those either. The 1000RR upper would be different to mount the HESD.

I am not using the 1000RR clamps due to the HESD... The bike is limited on electrical power due to the ancient charging system. I also need the drop top clamp... I have toyed with doing a custom top clamp, but at this time in the build... its not worth spending the money to make a custom top clamp. at a later time, i will most likely be making a top clamp.

I made a drop clamp for my ZX6R to fit GSXR600 forks.
Just cut out the middle of an original top clamp so you have two seperate fork clamps (I cut around mine to leave the ignition switch loop intact). Push the forks through the original upper and lower clamps so they're a couple of inches higher than normal to hold everything in position. Put the seperated clamps on above that and cut an aluminium plate to fit across them (whatever thickness required to get the drop you're chasing), bore the steering stem hole through it and bolt it onto the top of the original clamp to position it. Then drill at least four 6mm holes through the seperated clamps and the joining plate and bolt it together. I did mine as a template to machine a one-piece clamp but it worked perfectly and has done for several years now so I have no reason to replace it.

your project sounds very interesting, i'd love to see pics.

just to be clear the 929 are 00/01 and 954 is 02/03. almost positive they are the same.

what kind of handlebars are you planning to use???

I put risers on my bikes (929's) and the factory clamps are a bitch to use for dirtbars because they are stepped (not flat)

u can use an rc51 top clamp with a spacer for the stem opening as the rc's stem is much bigger. this gives a nice flat surface to work with for installing risers....not sure if you are. just throwing it out there.

bars will be clip on's... I don't want to shoot any pictures out just yet... as i have found that most people have a hard time envisioning a finished project during the stages of a build... once the bike is a little closer to resembling the finished product i wouldn't mind shooting you some pictures if you are interested...
