The 929's have some sort of idle compensation device on the left side of the carb banks, perhaps the 954 has a similar device. But I have to say there is little documentation about it and its trial and error. Get a copy of the shop manual and read up on it. The valve has a water feed loop from the cooling system, there is an expanding wax pellet inside and when the bike warms up this pellet expands and changes the idle. Check it out.
HIGH IDLE WHEN WARM
Hi guys, my 2002 954 idle sits at about 1400 when cold and then around 1800/2000 after it’s warmed up. Blipping the throttle in neutral doesn’t calm it down.
