It's the immobiliser that's built into the ECU on non-US bikes.

I take it that it comes with a key? The HISS chip is a small transponder chip which lies beneath the shiny side of the key (theres a Honda logo on that side)

No key necessary, these are the US model harness and computer
The ignition switch is different though and I don't know if you can wire a HISS ignition switch into the US harness. It's probably doable.

Ahh fair enough - thought you had a HISS ECU.

Hmm true say, would have to check the plugs...

how do I find out it will work on my bike. will a photo help?
You really need to find out which market your bike was built for and get a wiring harness for it to determine whether anything electrical is compatible.
Did you find out the market letter after the SC50?

SC501 is the US Californian model. Definately wouldn't have HISS.
No, I wouldn't suggest cutting the ECU open.
Does the ECU have the 19 and 17-pin connectors or two 18-pin connectors?

You'll want the 49 state harness and CDI I have, the california components are more restrictive and lose power
I don't think that's correct. The Cali model does use an O2 sensor for fueling but I'm not aware that it's any lower on power.
