Hello guys, i am new to this forum and this is my 1st post :)

I have a 929rr and it can't start. repair center guy said my ECU (CDI) need to be replaced. also he said my bike doesn't have HISS system. my bike have a power commander unit also .

So here is the problem, how do i find a matching ECU for my bike?

My current ECU showing these figures

38770-MCJ-641
9629 - 125898
KEIHIN corporation ED

I searched ebay for a ECU and i found one. here is it's figures.

38770-MBG - 671
9601 - 103677
Kehin corporation A

Will this ECU work with my bike? if not, please give me a guide how to select a correct ECU unit for my bike.

If anyone wants more info please ask me.

And i am from SRI LANKA ! :smilebig:

I would've expected your bike to have HISS. It doesn't have the HISS sensor around the ignition switch or the HISS light on the tachometer?
I believe the "Kehin corporation A" means it's a US ECU but I don't know what market the ED is - I'll try to find out though.

What exactly does your bike do when it won't start?
Was anything done to the bike since the last time it started okay?

One of my friend had this bike. he said HISS removed from bike 01 year ago.Fan is working and fuel pump is working when i switched on the bike. repair guy said spark plugs not receiving power.

And the bike has been running since the HISS was "removed"?
When was it last running and what has happened to it just before it stopped?

I asked from him. he said tachometer have HISS indicator. also he said he removed the HISS and programed the HISS system to a unit named "power commander". he told me HISS indicating bulb is always on. before bike's dead it give a engine miss for near 01 week

The Power Commander has nothing to with the HISS so that's not right.
So it has been running just fine recently?
How many kilometers has it done since the HISS was removed?
Started to miss for a week and now won't start at all?
It does crank over normally on the starter motor but won't fire?
Power Commanders are known to fail so I'd disconnect that first to rule it out.
And the killswitch will fail if used regularly so try bypassing that as well.
I assume it is not flashing any codes?
How _exactly_ was the HISS removed?
Perhaps the "removal" has failed. Do you have the original HISS key?

1. As i know, this HISS removing is not done by in our country. my friend bought this bike with this modification and he ran over 3000KM without any hassle.

2. Yep, started a miss and now won't start at all (but cranking fine)

3. Repair center guy said he tried disconnecting the "power commander" unit and by passing the kill switch. also he said he checked the wiring harness as well

4. there isn't any flashing codes

5. Also my friend said he replaced ignition key port with a honda hornut 250 key port. and after that bike ran without any hassle with hornut key port and key (this modification is done before 01 year ago)

PS: i fixed my ECU unit to another 929rr bike. It has the HISS thing. to my ECU his bike doesn't respond at all. (NO fuel pump, no fan)

Looks like you've done a thorough job of diagnosing it.
Did you try the other bike's ECU in your bike? You would of course need to have that bike's key near the HISS sensor for it to work but that would tell you if the problem is definately in your ECU.
At this point I would probably resort to getting a US non-Californian ECU and harness and start again :)

As per the mechanic fault is on the ECU unit. so above mentioned one will work with my bike? i want to make sure before buy it. because seller is not accepting returns due to incompatible issues.

Also can you give me specific details how to test by plug in another hiss enabled 929's ECU to my bike? i didn't get what you said about the hiss sensor.

Thanks in advance

I doubt a US ECU will work on your wiring harness as it's sure to be wired differently. You would need to get the complete harness with the ECU, and I recommend getting the ignition switch with it as those are wired differently as well. The instrument cluster and switch clusters will probably need some rearrangement of their wiring but they shouldn't be difficult.
I would agree with the seller in this instance, the risk is all yours when you knowingly buy something that was not designed to work on your bike. The seller isn't responsible for it not being compatible.
If you don't have the HISS sensor on your bike (a black plastic collar that fits around the ignition switch with HISS marked on it) then you should at least have the connector for it on the harness. When you connect the other ECU to your bike you will need that ECU's matching key to place alongside the HISS sensor on your bike to trigger the HISS off in the ECU.
Does the ECU on the other bike have the same numbers as yours?
And the fan should not be on when the engine is cold and not even running.

HISS working 929's CDI numbers are

38770-MCJ-671
9630-114802
KEIHIN corporation ED

Faulty 929's fan working when switched on the key and it stopping near 1 second.

Friend, can you ask me what do you wanna know more about this bike? then, i'll go tomorrow to the repair guy and get the detail you asked from him. In sri lanka, there isn't good mechanics to repair those kind of bikes. :idunno:

thats why i am asking your help. also i am going to buy this bike from my friend after this problem resolved. so this is gonna be my 1st CBR :O:O:O

And i am very great-full if you can PM me your IM ID or email, so i can contact you quickly (skype. MSN. gtalk etc...) :):):):):):)

Again, very very thanks for helping me !

Are you sure it's the fan you're hearing and not the fuel pump priming the rail?
I have friends from Sri Lanka and they're actually over there on holiday right now - back in two weeks :)
I suppose all I really need to know is are there any other modifications to the bike?
Is the exhaust system OEM?
Does it still have the exhaust valve and airbox flapper?
Does it still have the bank angle sensor?
That's very odd that you have two ECU's with the same part number but different market codes - at least, that's what I think the "A" and "ED" mean.

I'll ask the mechanic and tell you the details. but according to him there is no errors in bike other systems. Now he is trying to repair the ECU. but my guess, he is taking ages to complete the job.

That's why i want to put a new ECU. so what is the best thing to buy? An ECU with HISS + Ignition key or just a ECU?

Also i want to know is there a place to buy a ECU online and ship it to sri lanka? Most Ebay guys selling just the ECU (No keys) :idunno:

If your wiring harness is still intact and hasn't been altered (to remove the HISS for exmple), the the simplest fix would be to get a HISS ECU with the same numbers as yours but it must have at least one matching key.
Otherwise, a non-Cali US ECU and harness should work but you would need to modify some wiring to get everything working.
I could possibly find you an Australian HISS ECU but I don't know whether it would be compatible with your harness. If we could find out exactly what market your bike is then we might be able to find a wiring diagram. If you take photos of your ECU and harness connectors and draw the connectors marking each pin with its wire's colour I should be able to check it against my bike and tell you if it's likely to work.

My Friend, i made a mistake. my current ECU Serials figures is this

Hmmm...if the ECU looks like that I'd be inclined to run away.
If I were intending to buy that bike, I'd pay very little for it and then I'd replace the _entire_ electrical system. You're likely to end up chasing gremlins forever. I'm not surprised your mechanic seems reluctant to mess with it. I also agree with him that the ECU is almost certain to be the problem.
It appears that the ECU is a non-Cali US ECU already, which probably means the wiring harness has been replaced as well.

So you mean if i buy a new ECU and fix it to the current harness, it might not work ? :crying::crying::crying:
Also what is the mean of "non-Cali US ECU"?

How much would it cost to import ECU + IGNITION KEYPORT + KEY + WIRING HARNESS to sri lanka.
