There may be better solutions, but this is what I have done.

Firstly, carefully remove plastic bung from centre of headstock :

to leave a big hole !! :

To mount a RAM ball,I used a threaded rod and ball I had from a previous bike and added some larger stainless washers and a couple of rubber washers to protect the bike :

So the bits will be fitted like this once on the bike :

So that's it-just fit to bike, taking care to centre it all up before tightening :

You can then just fit your GPS cradle and arm :

(I'm still waiting for new Garmin Nuvi 550 to arrive in post).

All very straightforward.

The RAM stuff can be bought here and the threaded rod and washers I got from my local hardware store

If you choose to take the official headstock ram mounting option instead just be aware that the plug you have to cut down is too small. You will have to buy something to replace it with.

I ended up with a 2 pack rubber door stop from B&Q as that was about all I could find which was close to fitting the bill.

A bit of WD40 and they slide in perfectly ( albeit a bit soft for a perfect grip ).

What I could suggest is a longer bolt and 2 bungs placed back to back so that when you tighten up, you would get an expanding fit - but it would be hard to do as they need to be tight before they are inserted and there isn't much space.

Just in case anyone else is looking to 'ram' enable their 08 blades.
