Man, I made out like a bandit yesterday.

I bought the 'Blade a coupla months ago in another state and didn't pay sales tax.

Took an old bike tag with me to the tag office and told the nice lady behind the counter I needed to register the vehicle and wanted to transfer the tag to it.

Technically, I should've had to pay both sales tax of over $400 plus ad valorem and whatnot which would've added at least another $100 or so to the bill. So you can imagine I was braced for the worst.

The luvly lady behind the counter charges me $18 for the title and $20 for the tag. That's it. I wanted to giggle with glee! Fwiw, I renewed the tag for the viffer at the same time and it was $95. (And the old tag I took to transfer over was expired.)

So I did good.

Awesome! ;thumb;
But, be careful in the future, we have a bunch of dealers in the area getting audited(sp) because of not collecting proper taxes, and now they are being forced to cough up all the names of the people who didnt pay them.

I plate mine in my home state of Iowa and it costs me a whopping $20.00 per year, total, no matter what bike I ride or how much it costs. And I'm not even breaking the law.

Pretty close to that for us.

XR600 $32.00
CBR929 $32.00
Jeep GC $32.00
Trailer $32.00
ML320 $32.00

The only thing that is not $32.00 is the boat. Not sure exactly what it cost (coming up in June) but it's pretty cheap too.

Sure beats over $1500 a year we used to pay in CA!!!

We bought my bike in Kentucky and didn't pay tax either.

About 4 months after we purchased it, we got a nice letter from the State of Ohio saying they don't have a record of us paying the tax on her and that we owed them some $$$$

At the Michigan SoS counter when I was getting a title for my last new TZ (you only get the certificate of origin on GP bikes), the lady passed me a license plate and registration in spite of the fact that 'COMPETITION VEHICLE FOR USE ON CLOSED RACE COURSE ONLY!' was emblazoned at a 45 degree angle over the entire cert.

I think they don't always look very carefully . . .

That's cool, abtech! Wish I could do something like that with a bike like the 'priller 250.

When I bought my 954 I got it in the crate from a Canadien Dealer, the title I got said something about off-road use only and I was so worried I'd have to pay all kinds of duty fees/taxes, etc...  I went into the local registry, gave them the title, they said pay 35 dollars and it's all set.  I never paid any taxes or anything??  They haven't sent me any letters saying I have to pay yet so who knows.  It's fun when you get a break on these types of things every once and a while.

It's also great because in Maine you do all your registration crap at your local town office so there is never any wait and I know the women who run the office and they help me out alot.

When my f4i was hit and got totalled I was living in Mass and I had so much paperwork and inspections and other bullshit to get a rebuild title and registration. I moved to maine, they asked if I had fixed it, I said yup, they said here's your plate!!!
