Okay- So I was driving to work today and as I got into work with the temp gauge on the '98 919 Blade about half way up the dial, pulling in 2nd from about 2krpm or slightly less resulted in a massive judder. Held the clutch in when I stopped and it was being a bit weird, like, not catching right. Thought it was carbs and needed to give them a bit of a clean.

After work (4 hours later), I tried to start it and then it kinda turned over a little bit, then nothing from the button. It started great this morning. Weird- so I bumped it down the multi-storey car park ramp. Tried to start it later and nothing, just literally same as before but nada. Tried to bump it but no. Checked fuses because my speedo was playing up when I had the lights on and touched the brake, so I figured it was a fuse, and lo and behold it's the 10A ignition fuse.

Replaced it and tried to start, still no battery but I did get a solenoid click this time. Couldn't bump it, was too wet. Do I Worry (capital W) about anything apart from a flat battery? Had to get home and will try and get optimate to it tomorrow, but I'm not really sure how I could have killed the battery. Lights work but dim significantly when starting, on the dash (doesn't like to start too much with lights on).

Any ideas? Or am I just being paranoid?

Cheers :D

You might have a couple of cells shorted out on battery, that would nock out fuse and take out batt. Get it tested, if its more than a couple of years old i would just fit a new one for the cost and see how you get on. Start cheap first, if its not that you will need to look deeper, but start there.

Okay, a mate jumped it and I got it back, still doing the thing with the lights on and the speedo cutting out, and I'm not sure it'll start again now it's cold. Buying a battery tomorrow and will check the light connections.

Have you checked the voltage of the battery yet? (and when its running)

My 954RR's speedo cuts out when the battery is low(ish)... might have a problem with the charging system.

Hmm - got a new battery and now I think it's the reg/rec, as it dies if I ride with the lights on etc. Am going to have a big check over tomorrow, woo!

Replaced reg/rec and all is working, although the bike is now idling at 2200 with the adjuster all the way out :(

Is it idling at 2200RPM when warm too? I know my Blade increases for the fast idle, then it drops to about 1200 +/- 100.

I was an idiot and had the throttle cable pulled too tight. Nearly just bought a set of second hand carbs before a mate came over and fixed it...
