I'm retiring my 954...

...from track duty.

I hit Sears Point again yesterday. When I was there in November doing suspension tuning on my 954. I had a great day, got a lot done and at the end of the day, I was pushing the front end a little in turn 6.

This time, I took out my race SV and worked on hard braking and corner speed. I lost the back a couple of times coming out of the modified turn 9 and then tucked the front on turn 11. I didn't think I was pushing it that hard. Damage was minimal and I was back on the track before that session was over.

It's easy to get the race bike going again. My street bike would be a pain in the ass. I'm done. Track bike only for track days now.

It must suck to not live in Cali. A couple of quick pics:



This one must be after I low sided in turn 11 (the ball is missing from the brake lever). I just about saved the bike by trying to muscle it back up with my leg. Would have been cool to catch on film.

Great looking SV. I'd love to find something like that for the track as well. I've been surfing the wera ads but most of the bikes I'm seeing seem way overpriced or very beat up. I completely agree about the 954 on the track, mine is just way to nice to risk beating up like that.

What kind of "tires" are you going to use on your 954? :smilebig:

That's for the Cali comment! <shivering in Ohio> :rant:

Retiring, retireing...Engilish confuses me. ;)

The leathers are a little battered; but, they've held up well. They fit me pretty damn well off the rack and they are fairly comfy. My next set will be custom made, probably Helimots.

The helmet was a present from my wife. I pulled al the stickers off it partly because Arai doesn't sponsor me (why would they...I suck) and partly because I I love the solid black look.

The SV was a great buy. It was higher in price than I wanted to spend; but, I did the math and it would have cost me at least $5k more to build that same bike myself. Note the silver parts are painted duct tape silver, all the better to hide battle scars. Whenever paining a race bike, be sure to color match it to an available color of racing tape ;)

Good advice Eeek. I plan on painting my SV beast this winter before the AFM season starts.

My pocketbook didn't miss it. After buying the bike it was all I could do to get out on the track before the real winter hit. It would have been nice still. Right now I am forced to make engine noises in the halls at work. Who sponsored the day?

Fortunately I might switch employers and recieve a hefty increase in salary. That could fund my racing season coming up for both YSR's and big bikes. :smilebig:

What kind of body work do you have on your SV? It looks awesome and for some reason far better than the Hotbodies stuff I'm running right now, but that could be because of some rash and a rattle can paint job.

Keeping my 929 & another sportbike on the hwys. Even if I was some 20 to 40 yrs younger the full day's trip to the two track locations being Calgary Alberta Cdn & Spokane Wash are good enough reason of not going 100% track.

I hear ya about the mounting brackets. I had to fab most of mine and modify the glass because of the M4 exhaust. I'd like to put RC51 glass on the SV, but not sure what all would be entailed. If anyone knows, post up.
