...... Sounds stupid, but no-one I've asked has an answer to this...... do windscreens with mercury, chrome or irridium coatings impact effectiveness of radar detectors?

....feel like a jerk for asking.....would feel worse responding to a magistrate.:spank:

I doubt it. The coatings aren't that thick. Most law enforcement agencies have gone to the laser which is just about impossible to detect in time.

I'm not sure what the speed cameras use.

Somehow, I very much doubt it.

I took that to mean he was asking if it would affect the detector, not the ability for the radar to aquire your speed.

tend to doubt it would have any effect, especially aiming at the mass of the bike and rider.
I would think the windscreen would have no affect on how quickly a radar gun reported your speed for the very reason you mention. The mass of a rider and bike has plenty of other things that can easily reflect the signal, windscreen or not.

Thanks guys....... yes, I was asking about the effect of windscreen irrid/etc coatings on MY radar detector's (escort 8500) ability to sense x/k/Ka signals through the screen...... my detector is mounted behind it on the triple clamp.
