Anyone ever changed a Euro Spec Bike to MPH for import to the U.S.?? Know whether I need to change the Heads Up Display or just the speed sensor? :idunno:

On my F4i you just have to hold the top button down for a few seconds and it all changes to KM. Does yours have the electronic display with two buttons on the side?

Yeah Slick it has the two buttons side by side beneath the display but if I hold them down it only seems to reset the trip odometer or start the clock blinking.

the right hand button changes the speed between km/h and mph.

the odeometer will always read in what ever market the bike was for so UK/USA will be in miles, Euro/Japan in km etc. so if you want to change that bit you'll need some different clocks I beleive.

My '02 F4i will switch the odometer reading also. I know because when I left on vacation I took my battery out with 4800ish miles on the odometer. When I put the battery back in upon my return I switched it to Km's without realizing it and I about flipped out when I saw my odometer reading 7700 "miles" on the clock. I thought someone had stolen my bike and been joyriding it while I was gone.

at least on US spec 929s you push the right button and it switches to between km and miles (spedometer and odometer). holding the right button will switch the water temp gauge between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Well I didn't know that! Gonna try that next time I'm on the bike..... 22:23hours here so not gonna go look! and there is not mention of this in the owner's manual, only the "km/p to mpg" for the speed is listed. Going to France in 2 weeks so would be useful if it did change the odeometer for the trip.

just tried it and ode. stay in miles all the time, not option for C to F on temperature, but not bothered by that as never worked in F in my live! some say I've never F'ing worked in my live but that's only their opinion!!:rotfl:

Thanks for the info, Haven't been able to ride since my Fuel Pressure Reg diaphragm sprung a leak but I'll be sure and post results after I'm back on the road. Part came in this afternoon so I've got a few wrenches to turn.

It doesn't seem like the right button does anything. Tried pushing, wiggling, holding, everything short of hammering and no results, any weird configuration the bike needs to be in ? in gear, neutral, engine running, stand up, stand down?...... By the way Any more Mod's I may need to do to be able to import/register my blade once I leave Japan?

Yeah, you'll have to convert the steering to left hand drive!!! LOL!!!

Jokes aside......if the button won't convert kmh to mph, you'll need a US cluster, but not a new speed sensor. Sell your gauges in Japan on Ebay then.....advertise that you'll ship to Australia and New Zealand and you should get some ok money for them. Or just sell them in the USA when you get there and advertise delivery to Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

You'll need DOT marked brake lines and tires, and you'll need a US/North American headlight as it dips to the other side of the road. Mirrors on the left abd right side of the bike. Depending on the state you register it in, you might also need the stock exhaust system to meet noise/emissions requirements.

I had to go through all of this when I shipped my bike from the US to Australia. It was a pretty painless process.

:lmao: Thanks Sime, one more question though, how are the brake lines marked and where would I find the marking at? It sounds like I'll be able to install a US cluster as soon as I can get one because it should be able to convert from mph's to kph's. Stock exhaust is long gone though:thumbd:

You're welcome!

The brake line has the DOT marking printed on the outside of the line in several places on the line. It will say "DOT" followed by a number.

Stock exhausts come up for sale on Ebay quite often.
