Last year i bought a tankslapper from Pacific auto trim.
I love it works great. They also sell a lensprotector for the 954.
This one is made from 3M material. Someone has any experiance with it?

Thanks

I tried to put that on my 929 about 2 years ago. Was kinda ill fitting and hazy. Ended up taking it off right away. It was a wrestling match trying to get it to lay flat, and the edges overlap the edge of the headlight in spots. Give it a try since it's cheap and all, maybe you'll have better luck.

I use a hard lens cover by Ventura...the folks who make the awesome luggage bags & racks for the bikes. It attaches via velcro like material so it's easy on & off. It's clear and doesn't affect lighting at all.

I wouldn't bother with the film-like stuff, it really won't protect your light from any debris damage and that's why you want it, right? This one will take impact from any rocks and will protect the headlamp assembly.

Seriously, check it out, it's worth the $38:
Cycle Venture for Ventura light guard :)

If you have any questions about it, give me a shout.

Has the velcro ever given way and had the thing fly off on you?
Just wondering as I'm looking at the film type as well. Tks

Nope, never had the cover come loose at all and I've had the bike up to speeds higher than posted. :eyebrows: You get about 8 sets (top & bottoms) of locking material to use, mine was white ... I used every one. :p It a hook & loop material rather than the plastic locking stuff but I've had no issues with it. You actually place them on the protector so if you decide you want to use different locking stuff, that's not a problem.

HGToo has a cover too and no issues with hers either. It certainly is cheap insurance and makes a nice little present for Santa.

I have the 3M stuff from Tankslapper and it's a PITA to put on and I still didn't get it perfect. It does keep it form getting messed up though. I still have it on. It also comes with tape for other parts of the bike like right above the light, front fender and on the lower fairing. The light is the hardest part to do because of the curve.

I'm sure I have a picture somewhere, just not with me at work. I'll post something tonight for you. :)

Here's a pic with the lens cover on. Note how difficult it is to see the cover. If you look closely you'll see where it partially overlaps the paint. It's not 100% exactly the same cut but it's darn close..there are some overlapping parts that are barely noticeable unless you're looking for them. The white ovals are the hook & loop mounting thingies that come with the cover. You could use clear ones if you choose. I don't mind the white.

Hope this helps. :smilebig:

The kind HG has will protect very well. I have one from Carbotex for my 929. (I don't think Carbotex is around anymore? But Ventura makes one as well for the 929). I've never had it fly off. The plastic is a bit thicker than a windscreen, so it'll take a rock and save that expensive headlight assembly.

Thanks for the info. I ordered one tonight. I was on the FWY just today getting pelted by gravel from a speeding & leaking gravel hauler :crap:

It'll protect great with my black LP radiator grill
