Hi Guys/Gals,

Want to move up to an F2/F3 from my little ninja ex250.

Now looking for one on Craigslist - what are somethings I should look for? I have been through hell with my ninja250 and if I get another bike I want to make sure I am not purchasing someone else's problem.

1) Are bikes in the 20k-30k region still ok? Is that a bit high? What if highway miles?
2) Are there some notorious problems with the F2/F3 series that can be found before I buy it? ie: Like suppose the water pump is known to leak etc..
3) Are frame sliders available for these bikes?
4) Are they quick to start in the morning? Any engine probs etc should I know about?
5) Is the suspension adjustable?
6) Are the tires 17" - so that the options for replacing them is a lot easier (my ninja had 16s :thumbd:)
7) Are the profiles more of a standard or are they a bit/lot more agressive in stance with the handle bars comapred to say a ninja 250?

Thats all for now...thanks guys.

94 is the best year for a stock F2
17 inch wheels are standard.
I had 39000 miles on mine when it was totaled.
Reg/Rect is weak there is an upgrade from honda or you could always upgrade to a R1 yamaha unit.
Mine always started great. D&D full system with rejet.
That is all I know.

I Have a 94' F2 and love it. If you can go with something with fuel injectors, I would. F2/F3 are great bikes. Older isn't always bad. My F2 is very quick, and easy to work on. I do have to say that going from a 250 to a 600 you will be very pleased with the power difference.

I am currently looking at the Kawasaki ZX6, CBR F2/F3 and GSXR from that era.

What seperates the CBR from the rest? I basically want a nice bike that will run for a long time without any major issues - I dont mind doing minor maintenance projects ya now.

The reason I bought my CBR in 94 was all the reviews were saying that it had the best blend of power and handling.
I would probably still have it today if I hadn't wrecked.
You do not want to get an early 90's GSXR600.

Good to know about the GSXRs thanks. Alot of people online have been recommending the SV650 and I just dont think I want a naked bike as I love how fairings protect you from the wind.

I'll tell you right now that gsxr's from the earily 90's aren't anything special. If your going to buy a earily 90's bike make it a Zx or a cbr. Both bikes are very fast and have great handling. As for fairing, they are really only for looks. Yes, they help with aero-dinamics, but if you think about it your body defeats the purpose. There are a couple guys in FWMR, "Ft. Worth Motorcycle Rides," that have the SV650. They keep up with all of the rest of the bikes in the club, on rides and they also look nice. Personaly I think your trying to put way to much thought into all of this. The reason there are so many different bikes made, is because different people like different things. Go out and check the different bikes out, and then make your own choice from that. Or if you think your not ready for a 600, go get a 500. 600s are a perfect track bike for many reasons. These reasons may not be for you though. Get out and check out all your options.

That is what I have concluded - just waiting to get my ninja250 back from the shop and then I sell it. Then I look for an F2/F3 or ZX6

I just bought a 94 F2 with 51k miles. It still runs great. Not too hard to start in the mornings, just gotta use the choke a lil. On the 94's, you can adjust the suspension. Its a good bike. This is my first bike and I love it so far. Its fast too!

I'm pretty much holding out for an F2/F3. Just put on frame sliders and I am good to go. Using the choke is fine with me as my Ninja250 required it on certain days.
