SO I have just purchased my first bike. It's a 01' CBR929RR in amazing condition. Has 5020 miles (o.g.5000 when I bought it) purchased for $3300. Did a get a deal? I think so.

Sounds good! Welcome to the forum.
Has it been sitting or been in storage?
Do you have any experience working on bikes?

I only ask because the mileage is so low, if it's been in storage, you may have a few wrinkles to iron out...

It has been garaged and ridden very little. It does have a fresh oil change and new battery. Was planning to clean the chain and the air box as well.Anything else I should be thinking of checking?

Change out ALL the fluids. Brakes, fork oil, coolant.
Check condition of brake pads.
Get a friend to help you set riders sag on your suspension.
Download or buy a service manual. This is pretty important, it will go through all the things you need to check out and instructions for all maintenance. The stuff that needs doing on a new-to-you bike. In the Honda manual, it's section 3.

I'm guessing that your fuel pressure regulator may need replacing pretty soon. They don't like being stored. So be ready for that.
Buy a tube of dielectric grease and get in the habit of putting a dab on anytime you unplug and re-plug an electrical connector.

Good luck. There's plenty more things to go over, hopefully others will chime in.

Did you say first bike? Any previous riding experience on street or dirt?

That's a very clean looking 929, good score!

id say its a hell of a find. you know your probably dealing with a bone stock bike when it still has that big bulky whale penis on the back ( stock tag fender) they're almost always the first to get ripped off and replaced when someone buys a bike and starts looking to "mod" it.... you can usually bet that a bike with them is unmolested ... USUALLY :thumb:

I would say you got a helluva deal on her =) Very pretty Blade! It is rare to find a bike that is still all standard- either leave it that way and just enjoy, or you end up with a completely fresh canvas... either way you can't go wrong. I would suggest a fender eliminator and at least a bolt-on pipe. The fender eliminator makes them look better and the pipe will help you be heard better (not that people pay that much attention even if you're loud....)

Anyway, :welcome: to the .org and good luck with your new baby! Don't forget to find her a great name!

Congrats Trente! Nice ride :) I picked up an 02 954 this weekend (just getting it certified today) and can't wait to get it out on the road!

I had an 02 and had to part with it in 05 (lost it in the divorce!) but loved it sooo much I had to get another :)

Have you had it out yet?

nice looking bike bro!! n after spending 4 months to find my new to me bike on craigslist ive got a solid idea of a good value on used bikes. i talked to a butt-ton of potentials and worked prices out n even found out what those sellers ended up actually selling the bikes they had listed for even tho i didnt buy. n yeah thats a great price for basically a new bike! ill say after a lot of looking i finally just bought an 03 954 with just under 10,000 miles for 4,000 n i feel like it was a pretty solid deal. as far as stuff needing done, first thing youll need to do is for sure put all new fluids n filters. from break fluid n oil to coolant. youll be better off doing the fork oil for sure also, just like engine oil it gets mucked up from use but also degrades just over time as well n you can be pretty sure it original. +1 to setting your sag as well. i dont know what you weigh but if its more than 190-200lbs youll probably need a stiffer spring in your forks n may as well do that when you do the fork oil. springs arent to expensive and having the right suspension set-up is the most important time and money investment you can make on a bike. before that exhaust or fender delete any of that stuff. when i got my 954 it had been sitting in storage for 7 years. i had to buy the fuel pump and regulator just like jondog9 mentioned, a new battery(spend the extra 50 n get a good one), and got a new RK chain, and i bought some nice new tires. the ones on the bike had tread left but tires really get hard if not dry rotted even in good storage conditions after so long n i think seven years on mine was well into that slot. i got michelin road pilot 3's which arent the sportiest of tires they make but a really good all arounder for street use. you might want to swap out plugs as well but that you can pull them and inspect them n maybe get a few more miles out of them.

Hey thx for the info. I have checked the fork seals the are prefect. As for the springs I will add that to the list of to do's. Now I have seen in the manual that I can adjust the rear spring. Was that what you were talking about? I only weigh about 155lbs. and at the moment it's very firm ride wise. Just had fresh oil change and brand new battery. And I am cleaning the chain this week and changing the coolants.

id say close to standard setting outlined in the manual would be pretty good for you n the rest would be preference really id look online for a download of the service manual for your bike. there much more in depth n have pictures etc etc. heres a great link to a video that can really help you wrap your head around suspension settings n some how to stuff to get you started. gotta set the sag before you do anything ill post a link for a video on how to do that as well. the guy in the video is basically a god when it comes to bikes n setting them up.
