What's up fellas. I'm knew to the forum fresh out of beginner's motorcycle safety classes. Don't even have a bike yet, but I know that its going to be a fireblade. My question. Is it a bad idea to purchase a used bike that was a stunter by the previous owner? On my first bike a want to be the best bang for the buck, but nothing new yet just in case. Suggestions. Advice.:idunno:

I forgot to mention that I am 6'3" and about 280 lbs. I figure those numbers might factor into my bike selection, right?

Yeah, probably. It's also a pretty bad idea to purchase a liter bike for your first bike, regardless of your size. You'd be much better off riding around on something smaller for your first year (SV650, Ninja 500, or an older 600 like a Honda F2/F3). Then next year get the liter bike. Seriously, you'll become a much more proficient rider if you walk before you try to run.

Is the VRF1000 the superhawk? If so, that's a better option than a fireblade, as it's a twin engine. I still like to see new riders start out on something smaller than 900-1000 ccs, though! :) We want you to learn good techniques that are easier to learn on a less powerful bike so you stay alive and enjoy the sport for a lifetime.

Liter bikes are not for beginners. We are telling you this because we want them all for ourselves, we are telling you this so you don't become another statistic like most newbs on liters do.

Its probably a real bad idea, especially if they did any heavy modifications to it. Depending on the level of repairs that have been done, it might be ok. If the frame is straight, the tank isnt smashed in, all the brakes are in the right places and they work, the stops for the handlebars arent broken (they're cast into the frame and keep the bars from smashing into the tank), and the engine, and clutch hasnt been beaten to death or replaced, and the front and rear sprockets are as close to original size as possible. Not to mention all the fairings are in place, none of the signals and lights have been removed...i guess my point is unless you want a serious project, its going to be hard to find a decent first bike. Then only real advantage is it MIGHT have frame cages on it, which could wind up enticing you to do something more dangerous than not.

also :plus1: for not buying a 1000cc for your first bike. a 600 is all you'll need for a good long time.

I dont like seeing noobs buy liter bikes but it boils down to personal responsability. If you use you head dont go out and think you need to twist on it every time, you would be ok. As far as twins being a good choice a RC 51 will run with any liter bike on the street. Plus have a lot more tourque. The new 1096 I would say would give most liter bikes a hell of a run for their money. If you buy a liter bike stay humble dont think you are the next Nicky Hyden ride you have a brain and you will be fine.

I had the 02 f4i 600, was a prety sweet bike.
it only touched the ground twice. the first was a kickstand accident on my driveway and the second was on the street and was the end of that bike.
I had it for 4 years and learned how to ride safely.
Dont buy a new bike unless you have money to give away.
Dont buy a liter bike unless you have 9 lives.
i bought a 1000rr repsol now and treat it like my baby.
i am looking for my next bike just for sunts.
i heard the gsxr 750 is good for stunting. reply thanx
