well im getting a 2001 929 rr from a good friend of mine as soon as taxes get back for 1500 bucks!!!! Which as far as i can tell is a sweet deal, beings that the bike runs sweet, (i only know this cause i watched him ride it all last summer) and only 5400 miles on it. But his dumb arse threw the key away over the winter cause he couldn't figure out what it went to. Hes also has a Honda Passport n didn't get why the key wouldn't work on the Passport. In the trash it went. So what to do? Needless to say im very excited to be getting this, so I have to get this figured so i can get this beast on the road by the time spring gets here. ANY help, advice, solutions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

if its a hiss ignition be careful if you dont have the key number as its a programed key

check this with your friend and honda also as you might get a nasty surprise

has something to do with ecu as it will not be possible to start it

think that's right but someone will know exactly what's involved

What is a Honda Passport?
You take the bike (or just the upper clamp with the igntion switch on it) to a locksmith and they'll cut you some new keys.

A Honda Passport is a SUV sold in the states. Once the key didn't fit in the Passport would't he think maybe it was for another Honda he owned?
If you take the lock cylinder into a locksmith, he should be able to make you a new key for about $15
If it wasn't your friend I would be wary. It's hard to believe someone would throw away a key. Especially one with a symbol of the vehicle it goes to.

Have him go through the hassle of getting a key. You're the buyer.

:plus1: Pretty simple, as I did this with my 01 RC
Well hes giving me a great deal, and letting me give him $800 up front and make paymets on the rest. So how do i get the lock cylinder out? Its bolted from the underside with what im pretty sure are security heads of some type. And yea it is a good thing i know him well or this whole deal would be a bit sketchy.
:thumb: Well in that case I guess you can't complain, post some pics when you get a chance.
So can take just the cylinder out or is taking the upper clamp off fairly easy?
is taking the upper clamp off fairly easy?
Fairly easy is an understatement.
If it were any easier it'd fall off on its own :)
