ok, so i know the most not all exhausts will bump over the DB level at the track. what i wanted to know if anyone had experience cutting down the stock can, and if that would give just a bit more power but keep the bike below or at the DB level for the track. ive been flagged with my setup(yosh and a acro system) and just wanted to avoid this in the future.

In Cali I've heard of bikes with totally stock exhaust systems failing at Laguna Seca.

Why not cut it and then get a baffle? Over here there are places where you can purchase a baffle, cut it to the right size and then insert it into the can (you will have to drill a hole through the spout and either using a small nut and bolt or self tapping screw, bolt them together)

Crazy I did not know they had a Db max level at tracks. Why is this regulation put in place? Is it because of nieghboring buisnesses/houses complain about the noise.

Even MotoGP has maximum noise limits (although they're very high).
Our noise limits were lowered last year but the only time they tried to enforce them not a single bike passed and most weren't even close so they ignored that rule for the rest of the season :)

I found that a little strange as the amount of noise produced from Race Cans are tremendous! Why have a race can when you are not allowed to Race with them

I wonder whether they will ignore it this season too?!

yes over at laguna seca the neighboring homes complained and banded together and signed a petition. i think that the db level is now 100 or something low to that effect

Each class has it's own regulations.
Barry Sheene was one that pushed for the ridiculously high limits on MotoGP to retain the sound of the old days of four-stroke GP racing.
I'd have to check the manual but ours used to be 102dB as I got pulled for it in '92 at Broadford. I fixed it by drilling a big hole through a welsh plug and fitting that into the muffler outlet.

I thought Laguna was even lower than that?

92Db! I have a chart at work here behind my desk that shows Db levels and pictures of things that produce that level of Db. Guess what! From this chart Laguna Seca can't even mow thier grass as a gas powered lawn mower creates 94Db. :rotfl: :bonk:

That's why I've heard of journo's wanting to test new bikes (and cars) there and not being allowed because of the noise limitations.
I would assume the 92dB is for non-racing activities as racing would have to be higher than that.

Is that even possible?
