I have been dealing with an oil leak for the last 3 months since I got my wifes '00 CBR 929 and I thought I had it narrowed down to the stator cover on the left side of the bike. But last night I wanted to check her air filter and noticed the airbox was full of what appeared to be a reddish oil? Anybody have any idea what this is? I dont even know how oil would get here.

I had another question I wanted to pose to the .org'ers but its too early in the morning for my feeble mind to remember, maybe later today.

if you have oil in the air box, it's coming from the pcv tube that runs from the motor to the air box, it allows the crank case to vent excess pressure thru there, if it's pumping oil in there it's because:

A: maybe it has accumulated over a long piriod of time from no service,

B: has blow by from worn rings allowing cylinder pressure to pass the rings and under high rpms some oil would get pushed up into the tube in the form of mist collecting in the air box

If the oil is red...somebody went crazy oiling the filter with filter oil. You don't drench it with oil, just enough to change filter material from white to a red tint.

It is a K&N filter so you probably would use filter oil. I will check the PCV valve, and see how dirty it is, I want to take some of the stuff on this bike a little more apart than I have and clean it. I am sick of this oil leak in my garage! I have got to find the culprit, I am also planning on changing my stator cover gasket.
