Not sure what the deal is - Are there two different PC3r's for the 954?

I bought one from an .org member that, when I attempt to install, doesn't seem to plug to the injector harness. The female plug goes together easy as you please, but the male plug doesn't want to seat. It is like there is some extra plastic on the PC3 plug. Anyone else experience this? Solutions?

If it will help, I will post pics of the plug ends when I get home.

Yeah - there is only one way you can plug it in, due to the little tabs on the plug. It inserts about half way and then meets with resistance. It feels almost like one of the pins may not be lining up 100%. I will have to fiddle with it some more.

Why don't you try plugging the PC3 into it self so you can look at the connectors better and be sure it works. I know it's tough trying to plug in those things in a tight spot.

Already did that. Plugs up fine. When you look into the end of the plugs, the ones on the PC3 look different (there is more plastic) than the ones on the bike. I'll try it again. Like I said - if I can't get it to work, I will take digi-pix of the plug ends and see if someone can explain what they see. Probably opperator error though.

Thanks.

I tried it again when I got home and again this morning. Still meeting with resistance when I try to plug the female plug of the PC3r into the male plug off the bike. I've attached a picture of the two female ends side by side for comparison sake. Anyone see anything wrong? The PC3r is on the left and the CBR is on the right.

Have you found a solution to your problem yet?

I don't even own a PC3 yet, but after looking at the pic you attached it looks to me that the two connectors are the same only the PC3 one to the left is missing the white plastic plate which probably is a locking device (something you would have to take off to remove one wire/connector from the "multi connector") it probably also works as a guide when the connector is pushed into the ECM/wire harness. :idunno:

Just a suggestion..

I had similar issues when installing mine, but it was just that those things are tight and really hard to squeeze together when they are in such a tight spot.

Okay - now I feel pretty stupid. In the interest of keeping someone else from making the same mistake I made, I will share my stupidity. :)

So - evidently when they ship the PowerCommander, there is a little spacer/protective piece that is put into the male plug to keep the pins from getting bent? Either that or the spacer is meant to work somewhat like an adapter? You guessed it - I was attempting to plug into the bike with this spacer still in the plug. Once that little piece was removed, the plugs hooked right up. I finished the installation in about 6 minutes.

Now - does anyone happen to have an extra data cable laying around they would be willing to part with for little or nothing? The member I bought this from has yet to deliver the original cable. Ho hum.

AFAIK it's just a simple crossed serial cable. eBay, Radio Shack, etc ought to have one for about $10 :idunno:

 It for sure is. I've used a couple of different serial cables I had just lying around.

Great! That is nice to know. I wasn't sure if there was some crazy pin configuration that was different from a normal serial cable. I appreciate the help.

Ciao.

Once again, the question seems to be unresolved - Is the data cable a serial or null modem cable? When last discussed the final consensus decided 'null modem'. ???
