Being a newbie ish.....3k in 3 months

I pulled into a petrol station today, jumped off bike and went to start to fill HER up, "waiting waiting waiting" the look through the window and the guy inside was signaling for me to take my lid off.

I did then he started the pump, there must be some bad peeps about. I will not go back there again. They had 3 million cameras on the forecourt so they must have my plate, not happy with that ! I popped in and gave them some DNA aswell for next time.:evilaugh:

From what I have heard it's pretty common, but I've never had that happen to me. I always get off my bike to refuel though, I've heard some people that have had this happen have been sitting on the bike at the time.

TBH I try to use 'Pay at Pump' stations anyway as it's easier.

And like you, if a station made me take my lid off I'd tell them to poke it - what about people wearing those burkha things??

Had this happen a few time around England....i refuse to take mine off ever, rather walk, discrimination as far as i see, we had a garage in Swaffham refuse to give me squirt, so the next time we all met up in a big group (about 10-11) we pulled up to all the pumps and i went in and asked if we had to take are lids off, we he said i told him we would go else well an d will do from here on in , and that we ride out 2-3 times a week.....dont know if he gave a sh.t or not but made me feel better..:eyebrows:

It's law in the UK..You are supposed to remove your helmet whilst on a forecourt.

Legal

As far as I am aware there is no law requiring someone to show their face whilst buying fuel. If there were then rather a lot of Muslims would be getting prosecuted and there'd be a huge human rights debate.

Having worked in an offie where people haven't removed helmets before coming in I can vouch for feeling threatened even being a rider myself. Take the hat off - criminals use them, deal with it. It takes 5 seconds tops to remove it, probably less if it's not a new lid.

If you really can't be arsed, get a flip up helmet or go to one of those places where you an pay at the pump. I often remove my hat on the way to the shop to pay but I'd certainly not take offence if they didn't turn the pump on until I'd shown my face - t's happened before and people are just trying to make a living and ensure they're safe whilst they're at it.

The people who work in petrol stations are vulnerable enough to robberies given they're often on their own working late, without worrying if every biker walking in is a potential threat... and yes.... you do get to think like that when you're in a shop on your own late at night and it's quiet, especially when the place has already been robbed twice this year....

Helmet removal

I have just looked at the tesco website and morrisons website. There is nothing within either of the company policies that states a helmet must be removed. Personally i refuse to use either of them on the grounds of discrimination against bikers. Untiol they start makign other people remove headwear including religious headwear then they have lost out on my money.

Helmet removal

I don't, they can not refuse to accept my money, so I just ignore the request, tell them I am muslim, it is against my religion, and put the money down and ask for receipt.
Niether do I take my hood off when I go into shops, the first shop/garage that asks a muslim to remove there stuff can ask me, until then up yours

But the best...
morrisons

I don't use supermarket petrol station, but that's only because the fuel is cheap crap.

Perhaps we should all wear balaclavas under our lids. Then when we remove the lid, they get to see 2 eyeholes....

worked as a long distance courier for ten years, and in winter i could not move my fingers let alone use them to remove a helmet strap, it could take half an hour to remove lid at times if no one was there to do it for me. Never have and never will remove lid...end of!
