hello every buddy i need some help i have a 96 900rr that i got the motor was in bad shap so im having some one rebuild it for me here is the thing im pretty sure the motor thats on the bike is a 98 99 my macanic keeps asking me for the vin number for the bike and i give him the same answer if you look up the vin on the bike its going to come back as a 96 but the motor is eather a 98 99 what hes trying to do is order parts for it like the rod barings and a rod is all the internals the same on the 98 99 is there a way to tell by looking on the block what year it is if some one knows please let me know

Just tell him to work off the engine number, he is just being lazy. The vin number or reg number is kept with a lot of part suppliers to make getting the right part easier. He has the engine number and the year tell to take that info and use it:thumb:

so all the parts are the same in a 98 and 99 then so i am right i should have bought a book and done it my self i know how to work on cars and i know how to read yep im so doing my self next time
