I am going to a track day next week and was tweaking my suspension. My suspension is stock and I do plan on having it reworked over this winter. But for my track day, is there any problem with having my preload set to all the way hard? Even with it set to full hard my static sag (non-rider) is 42mm. Those stock springs gotta go.

Always a problem, but unavoidable under the circumstances from what you've said.

What have you done with the damping ?, compression especially ?.

I'm still sorting my bike out and have just increased the front pre-load up to 1-ring showing, compression is set to 1/2 turn out (from full in) and rebound is 1 1/4 turns out (from full in). I haven't rechecked the sag since I increased the pre-load, but at 3 rings showing I had 36.5mm sag, so yours sounds pretty dire...the sooner you can change the springs the better !.

I set the damping and compression to what was recommended in the Sport Rider magazine on setting up suspension. suspension
My bike seemed to ride just fine with the near stock preload and I wasn't bottoming out. So I guess I can set it back to that value for preload.
I was just wondering if I would get any better performance from the full hard front preload? I was also wondering if I would cause any damage with having the front preload set to fully hard?

I am not a racer. I ride pretty hard at the track but I am definitely not the fastest one out there.

Cool, I can't make on Tuesday. I wanted to check out SOW too :crap:

I'll do the anti rain dance 4 you all out there.

BTW, I use that Sport Rider setup in the front with two more turns of pre-load and 1/4 turn (hard) of compression and rebound for Big Willow. Granted I was just out to have fun and haul arse not race. Anyway, SOW may be a different setup all together. BTW I am about 240 pounds geared up.

Tie wrap a fork tube and see what's going on up front while you are there. I know the front springs are soft, but they are also progressive. Added compression dampening will help you more than all that preload IMHO.
