Sooooo I was looking at a '03 R1 on cl today, and supposedly the guy had it bored to 1400cc. So what I'm wondering is; is that even possible to get a 998cc engine bored that large and he just got his info mixed up (which I don't think he did) or is this thing a time bomb waiting to explode. Hes asking 3500 for it and its one of the cleanest bikes I've seen, but I don't wanna drop a couple grand on a new engine in a few weeks. So what do you guys think? :idunno:

Nope, piston spacing is too tight to go more than a few millimeters over-size.
1394cc requires boring 13.5mm over-size :)

Interesting, this guy swore up and down that it was 1400cc. So I'm assuming this is physically impossible...might call him back and try to find out what it really is. Could still be a decent deal after all. Except for the fact he lied to me about that :p

If he's lying about the engine size, what else is he lying about though?

Anybody that either believes he bought it already bored to 1400cc, or paid somebody to do the job for him is likely to be _very_ stupid indeed, so inspect the bike thoroughly.
If he bored if 7mm over and stroked it 10mm that would take it to 1401cc - but I doubt either is possible. And if it were, it would've cost more to do that than he's asking for the bike.

The only way of it being 1400cc that i can think of, is by fitting an engine from say a zzr1400/gsx1400, and i can only imagine what it would handle like, with all that weight.

I'm definitely gonna keep my distance from this one and just wait till a good deal on another r1 pops up. But I got the details from this guy, what he said was his buddy bought it brand new off the showroom floor. 2 weeks later he brought it into the shop and dropped 9k into it getting it bored, polished etc.... also put a power commander and had it dyno'd to perfection. Supposedly it's putting out almost 200 hp at the rear wheel.

But ya I'm gonna stay away from it. A stock r1 is plenty for me anyway:cool:

That's some funny stuff. Definitely let him keep that 'gem' for himself. :thumb:

He's almost putting out a heaping load of #2 out of his mouth.

Leave the "special bike" for the "special rider" I always say :D
I think you mean "overlapping pistons"? :rotfl:
Those brand new negative matter cyclinders they have been designing at the particle collider
It's actually just an inline twin now.
I thought they were making a three next year. They need to get with this guy if they REALLY want to have a class leading product!:rotfl:
