I know, the title is supposed to say 1000RR - I can't change it.

Reader's digest version.

Steve Atlas wrote the article.
Lots and lots of technical refinements.
When he finishes describing those, and finally rides the damned thing (at AZ Motorsporst Park)

Great drive off the corners.
Uncanny Lean angles.
Doesn't feel 26 lbs heavier than the 954.
Some of the best brakes ever, even with rubber lines and stock pads.
Deceptively fast. over 100 MPH in 2nd, not at full throttle.
Steering not effortless, but by no means hard.
HESD (electronic steering damper) is a trip
'calm and predictable monster that never tried to bite.'

Sounds like fun..

The only downside? About 50 new Honda Acronyms...

BTW, Sam Fleming, one of my favorite moto journalists and an endurance racer with Army of Darkness rode and wrote about the ZX 10 in a separate article. He says it kicks ass.

I cant wait till mine is here. Its all about the centralized wieght. 100 in second sounds good. My 929 will hit 100 in second, wide open red line though.

 My 929 would do 115mph in second, bone stock, 135 in third, not sure about the rest

I could probably milk a little more from my 929, but why it has 4 more gears? it will do over a 100mph in second, but I dont trust the speedo that much to say 115.

As for the 600RR mine might do 100mph in second, don't know though, no speedo.

I don't think your doing 115 in second ND4SPD, 100 no doubt, but the speedo is kinda iffy at those speeds.

My GSXR1K hasn't been to 100 in second, not really broken in yet. However it will pick the front end up with no clutch at 120 in 4th gear at 5 grand, can anyones 929 do that?

Mine will role up in 3rd at over 100 with just a slight tug on the bars. No clutch needed.

Yeah the Suzuki is fun to fool around on. Cant wait til I have about 200 more miles and an oil change. I'm going to womp on it.

Hey 3cRider what year do you have? If you dont know this little trick, its really easy, no tug on the bar. Just whack the throttle open, then get off it to compress the forks, then time it to use the spring of the forks and another twist of the gas to pick the front end up. Takes a little practice, but its so easy once you've got the timing down. You'll be picking the front end up in 6 gear if you really want to, however i recomend you keep the wheelies to gears 1-4.

My 929 used to get air in the first 9 gears without any tugging on the bars or clutch bullshit. It also ate F14Cs for breakfast.

Hmmm I suspect few if not no people in this thread are even top level club racers where the strengths of the GSXR are likely to make a difference. Hell at low to mid levels lots of people seem to lap faster on 600s (or less). We have no idea of the relative skill levels (and sizes!) of the riders in question. We also have no idea of what conditions breakfast was eaten in. Are we talking lap times at a track, quarter miles... what? Theres certainly a number of reviews (e.g. AMCN Vol 50 No 17) which suggest that the 0-100kmh times of the 929 may in fact better the early 1Ks (but hey to this sort of speed theres nothing in it btw litre bikes and 600s either, I suspect ease of use goes against the 1K). The same reviews suggest that at higher speeds the 1K develops increasingly larger advantages over the competition. More details less unsubstantiated claims please :).

Substantiate This-----
Actually NOT true---go ask the top AFMers how the '03 GXR1 handled at speed---like ass---it was mega unstable---they increased the streering angle in '03 and made it suck-ass ---at high club-level speeds---thats why most raced the '02s---AFM #1 Jeff Tigert (also works for Honda R&D) has been riding the 1000RR quite a bit, he likes it a TON better than last years '03 GSXR1(which he took the #1 plate with)
