Well as many of you have heard ATT Wireless just got bought out by Cingular which directly effects me  I'm guaranteed a job only until Dec. 16th of this year, after that nobody knows what will happen. These bastards just moved me up here as well from Dallas and this is one of the worst job markets right now. I feel like someone just kicked me in the shins. :crap:

That sucks, Booth. My sister is struggling in that Seattle job market as an Oracle programmer.

Hopefully you can impress the new bosses.

Hey, Greenville is a nice place to live! :D
My gf works for the same company and said she'd like NC, Raleigh/Durham area. I think I'll be up for anything with the exception of the North East (no offense). PHX, ATL (cingular is based there), northern Cali. Just got to figure out if I should start looking now, or wait it out for the possibility of moving to ATL. They did tell us that Cingular won't have any offices up here anymore, and I understand why, real estate is bank here.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I grew up very poor so worrying about money is a bad habit, and one that drives me literally insane. At least I have until December to figure something out. If I was still back home, I wouldn't be nearly as worried but I just moved here :crap:

I don't blame ya for not wanting to move up here, half the year is not exactly bike friendly. It is the same situation everywhere though with work. Really tough market as everyone sais, I am glad I am still young and living with my parents in that respect, my job is goin through a tough time and although we were promised that there will be no lay offs, my hours were cut and it makes bills pretty tough to pay. Could be much worse, you have time to figure somethin out, and things may change. Good luck, I am sure I speak for everyone when I say you have family in the forum if you ever need advice.

Does this affect the deal wherein you have to stay for a certain amount of time for them to pay for the move to Seattle? ( Or was that someone else?)

That sucks Booth. I feel bad now about encouraging you to make the move. Maybe the thing to hope for is that just because you got bought doesn't mean you are out of a job. I know my company has purchased a number of other companies, and it didn't really affect me. But we were just purchased by a smaller company, who will also have a majority of people on the board. What a screwy deal. This purchase does have me a little concerned now, since basically my company is going to be at the mercy of others. Just hang in there, and keep a level head about things.

If you decide to come check out North Cali, I'll have my new place in April (4 bedroom with two roomies so we'll have an open room). We can have a beer and reminisce of when we argued over the prez. :smilebig:

I recommend starting to look now. It's better to get a jump on things early because there will be others in the same boat as you. You didn't mention if your gf will be able to keep her job so that should be a factor as well.

Worrying about money isn't a bad habit at all. Thank goodness you have some cash to worry about...others aren't as lucky.

I hope things work out for you. :)
