hi just got a 94 fireblade and when i give any throttle it makes a noise. it's quite hard to describe its quite loud and sounds a bit like a really noisey solenoid at first i thought it might be a slight miss fire and seems to be coming from the top of the engine. it only does it when under load though any ideas?
cheers

when you say the noise comes when under load it makes me think of pinging. what octane fuel are you running? start with the obvious 1st...good luck

a 94 blade shouldn't be having octane issues... they were designed to run on 87 octane i think? Not a high compression engine compared to other sportbikes.

My bike makes all kinds of engine noises, some ok/normal, some not so normal. Do you have a manual cam chain adjuster ( tensioner lifter ) on your bike? Or is it a self adjusting oem type? Many times these bikes had/have issues with oem cam chain adjusters going bad and that will cause some bad noise. I have a manual cct lifter/adjuster on mine and it's adjusted incorrectly at the present time so it causes some rather ugly noise from the top/side of the engine.

Exhaust header leaks at the cylinder head area will also cause noise under engine load.

The slides on the carbs do rattle until the engine reaches operating temperature. The slides and carbs expand and contract with hot/cold, thus the slide rattle.

Is it like a 'very fast rattling/clicking sound'? If so it's more than likely the Cam Chain Tension Lifter.

Look at part #4 of the diagram/link:

If you don't have a Honda Tech Manual for your bike, i would say buy one. Try eBay, you can pick one up there for under $10 on cd rom. Or buy the hardcopy actuall book for like $70 from Honda. Changing a CCT lifter is easy, most anyone should be able to do it.
