So I never have had any help doing my taxes, actually I shouldn't say that I did have a local accountant do my taxes a couple of years ago and after checking his numbers against Turbo Tax decided it wasn't worth it...

This year I moved to Australia on my company's dime, part of the deal was 4 hrs tax consultation this year plus tax prep, 1 hr consultation and tax prep in ongoing years. They use E & Y, one of the big boys. All I can say is wow!!! I had a meeting yesterday and they asked me to bring all records I had for the past 4 years, I keep meticulous records (kinda paranoid). The problem living overseas is that the US taxes its citizens even after you leave, one of only a couple of countries in the world that do this. Taxes of former residents are nothing short of a nightmare to file. They looked over my records and it looks like I am getting a huge refund back for this year. On top of that they want to file for refunds from previous years using some sort of quantum math only a few people could understand. :smilebig:

Bottom line is they charge more then a lawyer per hour (I think my co is paying $200 per) but I can recommend Ernst and Young highly if you think you are getting ripped off on your taxes they are saving me a bundle. :thumb:
