My uncle works for a company that does different coatings for metals. Mostly medical equipment, precision tools, etc. He said he can do a titanium nitrate coating on my forks for free, but he needs to know a few things about the forks:
1. What type of metal they are made from (steel, alum, alloy, etc.)
2. If they were heat treated during manufacturing, and if so, to what temp.
3. What temp. can they be heated to before damage occurs.

If anyone knows any of these answers or can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

I wanted to add something more trick than TiN to my dirt bike, and looked for the same info because there are many companies that can do coatings locally. I never found it so I had a company that normally does MC forks do it, only I added a TiCN coating.

I had it done about a year ago. This past weekend some of it flaked off one of the fork legs. The black flaked off, and now you can see gold underneath. Unfortunately if this happens, you're fairly screwed as you can't easily redo it.
