Dear Community Members,

We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform! We’ve worked hard over the last several months with a leading design and product firm to deliver a cleaner, faster and more engaging experience for you. Our goal is to provide modern design and technology to make the site run faster, smoother and more reliably. All of the valuable content within the community is still here, even though the layout may look different.

A Consistent Experience Across All Devices
The site is optimized for all screen sizes, including mobile. All features are available and ready to use on all devices.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Your home page now features the most active forums, trending discussions, featured showcases, and top contributing members. This will help keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community and eventually become a very personalized experience for our members with all the great content you love surfaced effortlessly for you.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, that will help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Easy to Use and Navigate
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

You can also navigate by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Clicking on your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations – Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase – Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
These are just a few of the great new functions and features to try on the site. Take a tour and look around! If you have any questions, please check out the HELP section for some quick FAQs about the new platform - Help Section

Please let us know what you think about the new experience. Your feedback is important to us.

Thank you all for your support during this amazing journey!

I will be here during your transition to the new platform, to help with any questions, help with navigation or how to do things, and to listen to your feedback so please don't hesitate to holler at me. I want to help.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cricket. When I was born, my father told his friends I was the ugliest baby he had ever seen, and that I sounded just like a cricket (I was born with the hiccups.) so yes, I have been Cricket for 58 years now. I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. I spend most of my time off out in nature and exploring the back roads. During late autumn when it starts to finally cool down, I disappear from the world for a bit for camping trips and hiking.

Please don't be afraid to explore and test out things to see how they work on the site.

Although you can certainly use the "insert image" icon to upload an image to your post, you can also just drag and drop it to the text editor or even copy/paste it into there!

You can easily share videos just by adding the URL directly into the text editor!

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display automatically just by adding the gif URL directly in the text editor. Try it!

I am also a huge fan of the dark mode for the community. What is your favorite feature?

We will be seeing weekly updates (approximately) to the site which are largely based on community feedback so we absolutely want to hear your feedback!

I have worked with VerticalScope for 5 years but I have worked with forum communities for closer to two decades. I won't always know the answers to your questions, but I can find someone who does, as needed. ;)

Can you elaborate a little more about the drag and drop photo? Is that an immediately larger photo than an attachment? Is it "better" than using a web hosted photo? I have probably a thousand pics on here that are now blurred by the fee pirates at Photobucket. Is it worth using the text editor or copying and pasting?

Thanks

PS- all my favorite "smilies" are gone? (n)

You can simply drag and drop a photo from your desktop to the text editor where you post your comments. It will automatically be added. It will automatically resize depending on the the screensize of the member viewing it.

Example of this below.

I prefer the above or clicking the insert image icon rather than attachments.

I am not a fan of 3rd party hosting sites, simply because of issues like what happened with Photobucket.

We currently use standard UTF-8 smilies. This helps greatly in keeping things fast loading and standardized across device types. We no longer run custom GIF files for every single smile which is terrible for web performance, and fast-loading websites.

If you don't want to use the drag and drop option...

How To Upload Images To Posts

Start your post and normal and then click on the insert image icon.

It will pop up telling you to drag an image there or click. If you drag and drop it, you will see it show up in your post. If you click, it will allow you to navigate to where it is on your computer.

Then just click the image so it adds the file name for you, then click on open.

Finish adding any content and then simply post your reply.

Also, all the cool info on mentions, other quick "stats" that my avatar showed need to be added, premium status color, and other "minor gripes" have me already missing the old platform. What happened to my "greenie status"? I would like to see the premium members "halo" around the avatar be green for premium members again. It should stand out, like it did before. What does the little badge on the lower right corner of my avatar mean?

Thank, Ian

If you have been mentioned in a post, it will show up in your alerts.

Alerts/Notifications

A red dot on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site indicates that you have alerts or new conversations (private messages). When you click on your avatar you will see a number next to Alerts and/or Conversations indicating how many new ones you have. Click on each to view them.

You can adjust your settings for alerts by selecting Account Settings and then Preferences from the left side navigation on the new page.

Scroll down to “Receive a notification when someone…” and set your preferences.

For email alerts, scroll down to Content options and adjust your settings.

Make sure to click Save at the bottom if you make any changes.

Its only been a few minutes, and trust me, I understand the need for change (and I hate change), but I'm not feeling the new design at all. I love the banner, and cheers to those 2 bikes that got up there, but the feel of the new layout feels "sterile", for lack of a better term. I'm looking to get "genuine" feedback from the core members here. Is it just me and my hate for change, or is it going to be good for us?

All the cool info that you got immediately got under someones avatar was cool to see and seems to be gone. I know I'm nitpicking, but curious to see what everyone else thinks.

I do like the small window that shows the admin (moderators), and I see that it's ridiculously smaller in numbers. What happened to them all?

Like most of us, I am a creature of habit, so it takes me a bit to get used to changes. (I was more than a little grumpy about it all at first.) I was lucky enough to get the chance to play with the new platform before they went live with it so I am already getting used to it.

Have you tried the dark mode yet?

Any information each member has provided is still available on their profile within the "about" tab.

Any active members of the moderator team should still be displayed. If they were inactive, they may not be displayed on the list.

Can you explain how the old "reputation" is now calculated. There is nothing under the avatar that shows that. The new design seems to be forcing us to dig around and find it within the users old "control panel" or user panel. I dont like that at all. I want to be able to see someone who posts and get their vital statistics immedialty viewed of their post within the avatar/user information on the post. I tried to change my settings to show my age and it hasn't changed yet. Also, can you decipher what the "reaction score", and "points" represent?

thanks

Reputation was a feature of vBulletin. It is not on this platform.

If you hover over any avatar within a thread (or view their profile) you can view additional information.

The reaction score is related to positive (likes) reactions. Points are related to trophies.

Working my way around and first noticed that my original avatar became only half a bike:(.

Will spend more time on here tomorrow, but trying to locate the 'Today's Posts' tab that we used to have to facilitate quick access.

How To Find New Posts

Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts.

On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics. You can also mark all as read.

Hey Cricket,

On the last platform we were able to edit our own post for an unlimited amount of time. I've been fighting the Photobucket blurring and dropped links for a few years now. I have 2 very in depth build threads that have the pics blurred. I would like to use our new drag and drop feature to redo all the blurred and "attached" pictures. Using the new feature is already a pleasure as the pics are large and awesome. I've done this now twice, but would like to see if the edit time limit can be adjusted/changed so I can add the new awesome photos.

Thanks,

Ian

Also, the "Mention" feature is gone, or no? Is there a way to add items to the platform based on our requests? Or is it just the way it is and we deal with it? @admin

Thanks, Ian

How To Edit A Post

Click on the 3 vertical dots to the far right of the timestamp. Select “Edit”.

Members have unlimited editing of new posts for the first 24 hours after posting. Up to 10 existing posts (older than 24 hours) may be edited per week. More editing will be allowed as each of those 10 edits expires every 7 days.

The mention feature is still here. @IanDoohan
