quick poll, which would you view as stronger, from the perspective of the individual:

1. never taste "forbidden fruit", for example drugs, and resist temptation
or
2. taste, then reject and move on, and resist a different kind of temptation

just looking for external input, any opinions appreciated.

Well , if its Drugs , IMO , Pass on it Brother. There is no high greater than Life in a Sober Mind. A Body pure of all the trash out there.
If You wanna get crazy on Your Bike , go for it ,absolutely, just do it away from the general Public , Please.
Stronger ?... The One Who can Walk His/Her Own Path. You wont be a Coward, or not Living Life, You'll be the One who is Tempered. The One who is in Control of Themself. Disciplined. There is nothing stronger.
Warriors walk alone. Good Luck...

If people can actually just try the hard drugs... and walk away from them, then congrats! I have respect for those people.. Its the people that get hooked and dump everything in life for it that I very much dislike.

Marijuana? I have absolutely no issue with that. I grew up around kids who smoked it all day long, yet I never touched the stuff.. Then I came 18 and decided why not. I smoked it every once in awhile and really.. It was not bad at all. Helped me relax, and gave me an appetite that I never would have had otherwise.

I still say try it once.

If I knew when I was like 12 what I know now (like common sense and a the life lessons), I would have never touch the stuff. I've been there and done that with a lot of thing, I carry most of the scars to proving. Sometimes it's best to take the word of someone who has already learned the hard way. I have a motto (or more of a mantra, I guess) that goes like this: you can lay on the couch everyday and feel safe, then you fall asleep one day, roll off the couch hit your head on the coffee table and die of a massive head trauma. What fun is that? I would much rather be the guy struggling to pull myself up to the Pearly Gates mangled because I was out doing something dangerous in a controlled environment, and have the proof that I lived everyday. However, Foolishness is just foolish. Not that I ain't ever been stupid.

thanks all, appreciate the input. Ric, this isn't actually a decision i am trying to make now, but comparing myself to others. i've tried what i'm going to try and walked away, but i wonder if the fact that i did try makes me weaker or just normal. had some experiences in the last few weeks that have caused me to re-evaluate some things about myself, my life, my friends, etc, and sometimes it helps to have a sounding board.

Sounds pretty normal to me. And making bad decisions/actions does not makes us weak. As long as Our self-discipline kicks in. Some experiences cause big changes in the rest of our Lives, and others just leave a memory. Good or Bad depends on the choices made.
Just be careful in comparing Yourself to others. That is not the Rule by which You should measure Yourself.

Can't vote because of the wording - certain forbidden fruits are a gigantic no-no bordering or passing the creepy line.

If no one else can be harmed by your actions - go for it and keep wise counsel about it - trust a friend or a stranger to slap you if you get stupid. Drugs, speed, etc.

If you're asking for second thoughts about something, maybe it's your conscious warning you to just say no and you can move on to something less stressful and more enjoyable.

Stress has done some nasty things to people - trust your heart.
