Okay guys, tyre choices are the name of the game.

I have a CBR900RRX (1999) and due to limited tyre availability in Australia, I have the following options:

Metzeler Sportec M1 or M3

Michelin Sport

Bridgestone BT012 or BT014

My riding is mainly road with a track day or two to be thrown in. I'm leaning towards the Metzelers atm.

Does anyone else have experience with these options? What would you buy for your bike? Please take the pole.

Please limit any comments to the above tyres, bearing in mind I have the stock 16" front which is severely limiting my tyre choice.

Cheers,

i have rode on the bt-014 not a bad tire but just didnt like the feel of them, the metzler m1 are a decent tire but wear fast and i had a couple times they broke free on me. the metzler m3 are by far the best tires i have ever rode on IMO they warm up quick, stick like glue, gives good feed back to the rider, and in the rain and wet pavement i was very impressed as to how well the handled and held the road, the m3 also have lasted alot longer then the m1 by probly 40%. i have never rode on the michelin so i cant give any feed back on them, but i know from now on its the m3 for me.

I used pilot sport for that exact reason before, they were ok!!. Fine on the road maybe a bit more grip on track could have been better. That said I got through the day!!

I'd go with the M3 considering Pirelli bought Metzeler (correct me if I'm wrong). I've never ridden on them, but have heard good things much like what Sscottab said.

I'm riding on a set of BT014s. I've found them to be okay for the street. I've done one track day with them and have found them to be good but they don't like going from asphalt to concrete and back. I've had the tires slide on me. I was never fond of Bridgestone ever since I got the bike with the stock BT56s. I have an F2 with Super Corsas and love them. As soon as I can get the 17" conversion done on my 900RR, I'll be going to Pirelli.

I absolutely loved the BT014s on my RC51. Never had any problems with warmup or grip (rain or dry). The M1s that i had on a ZX9r, well i didnt like them all that much, i didnt get good mileage out of it either. The Michelin Sports were alright also, but nothin great. I never had BT12.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm definitely going to get the Metzeler M3's now. I have had M1's in the past on another 99 blade and I liked them a lot, hopefully that will mean the M3's I will like even better.

I'll post up some impressions after I get the tyres in a couple of weeks time.

cheers,

I've got a set of the bt012s on my bike and they've been great. I had 14s before and I might go back to them. We'll see... the 12s warm up instantly, grip awesome but... they are pretty bad for mileage. I've only got like 2500 and the back is shot.
