Hi i have recently picked up a bike running a cbr600 1990 engine and took it out for a little ride did about 6miles on motorway, pulled in at petrol (gas) station and its dumped coolant everywhere. i believe i have sorted this issue however it is burning alot of oil, alot of blue smoke and smells definitely like oil. im not sure what to do with it really, im not great on engines and im not looking to pour money into the bike either. can anyone advise? ideas as to what it could be?

thank you

could be a few things, piston oil ring worn or broken (replace rings),cylinders worn or scored (rebore cylinder and replace pistons),valve oil seal damaged or worn (replace oil seals),head gasket broken (replace and check head for warpage),clogged breather hose, valve guide worn (needs a complete valve job),engine oil level to high (drain to correct level), hope this helps good luck with it.

I think you better investigate one thing at a time. You say you fixed the coolant leak? Where was it coming from? Were all the fluid levels normal before the ride? If it pushed out the overflow you may have a head gasket issue. If the bike sat for a long time, the oil burning may improve once it has run for a while. How many miles/km's on the bike?

well this is the issue, nearlly all seals were changed in a rebuild around 2k ago, pretty much everything was changed in the engine, so i dont think its gaskets but i could be wrong. The fluid did not look contaminated so im thinking its not the head gasket. The bike had sat for a while. im going to check the compression to see if its the pistons and take it from there, however it had new pistons and rings as i said a couple thou ago. the only seal i believe was not changed is valve stem seals?
