Mine is also louder and not as smooth at idle as most bikes. I have had friends comment that it "sounds like sh*t" when we are just sitting at a light.

Then I leave them behind and ask them at the next stop "how did it sound from behind"?

I thought it sounded like a tractor the first time I started one as well. Normal. I have had an 04 and 06 now 08 and they all are very ticky sounding.

 

I've been wondering the same thing about how loud the motor is. Mine is loud even when I'm running through the gears, very noisey, sounds like hell is going to break loose. (I hope I'm not the only one hearing this.) As long as I can put tens of thousands of miles on it, and keep it for a while without it breaking down, the motor can sound like an old John Deere or International.

 

Use Repsol synthetic oil, it help

 

Only after it is completely run-in. An engine will NOT run-in if you use synthetic oil. Best to use a top quality 100% mineral oil when running-in. Don't forget the gearbox will take a little longer to run-in.

I use Motul 7100 4T fully synthetic oil in my 17 year old baby blade and it is just so smooth. I love it.

 

mine sounds like **** until it reaches normal temperature. Got a lil betta with the PCIII. my idle rpm is around 1.2k, if its could i see the needle jumping aorund between 1k RPM and 1.2k, no need to mention the funny noise then.

I posted the same thing few weeks ago. All my buddies ask if I use diesel fuel. I'd say its gotta be normal. :thumb: Smooth as silk after 2 grand.

08silvercbr - When you shut your bike off, does it shut down immediately and I mean immediately. Almost like the bike has tolerences that are a bit tight. The upside for me is I have not added more than a small cup of oil in 3300 miles. Unlike some who have to add a quart every thousand miles. I plan on going semi-synthetic at about 5000 miles. If I am right I should have an engine that has great compression and does not burn oil.

 

Yes, my engine stops right away when shut off. My bike must have some serious compression 'cause whenever I decel it's like I'm in 1st or 2nd gear even though I'm in 6th doing 70+ MPH.:thumb:

 

My -08 CBR sounds like old separator. In old days separator was in all country homes. That was used to separate water and some other part's from the milk. I am used allways Motul 7100 10W-40 full synthetic oil. My blade keep also klicking noise somewhere around 3000rpm . I think that some valve tolerance is over the limit. Must check that in long and dark winter season.

Take listen to new BMW M5 when it starts with cold engine. When the hood is open it sounds like diesel and old stale pushrod? engine is put together.

Mine dosn't eat oil at all. It is carefully break in and thre is never used revs over 10k.

 

DukeRR8- Yeah shuts off normal. Nothing unusual sounding. I have about 800 miles on now, changed oil 2 times and both times no oil used to speak of. I have to say both times the oil seemed unusually dirty though. Hopefully clean oil helped with the break in process. Probably wont change it again until the end of season so hopefully things stay on the up. I'll keep you posted.

Redleader666- when you idle down...sounding like you are in 1st or 2nd....thats just the slipper clutch doing what its job...not to worry. I think its kinda nice...saves on breaks.
