:boxing: FIGHT.....FIGHT.....FIGHT :boxing:

Easiest thing to do is buy one thats been done..I got mine from Ebay 92 quid....Better that spending a grand ( still don't see how you can spend that much money on buying and machining a secondhand wheel, when a 17" carbonfibre wheel costs less than that)
I wanted a wheel that matched my stock rear, now that i have the vfr wheel polished you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between stock and 17"

End of the day its what your happy with and scr*w the rest:evilaugh:

I'm looking at fitting a Triumph/Ducatti:clap: hub and 3 spoke wheel to match

What size tyre do you need on the front? 120/60/17 or 120/70/17?
120/70 would be the norm but it's personal preference.
When I raced my '90 GSXR750 on Michelin Hi-Sports in the early nineties I preferred 130/60 fronts.

I have ajdapilot's 17" F3 wheel on my bike with the galfer wave rotors, It is yellow and a fine looking piece. He was very helpful with the setup, I can't say enough for him. IMHO Thanks Jackson

Jim
Did it cost you $2500 :)
Did he say you look stupid riding a bike with different coloured wheels...

I run a 17" front on my 94/5 Foxeye blade. (I much prefer the 17" front to a 16" front - but this is personal preference also).

When I purchased the 17" rim (originally off a cbr600) it was fitted with a 120/60 pirelli super corsa or similar which I used until it was too worn.

Then changed to a 120/70 which seems to be the norm.. What did I notice ? - the 120/60 seemed more direct to feedback, and the 120/70 seemed a little more vague (and comfortable), but it did not take long to get used to it.

Now I run 120/70s as standard - Metzeler race tecs.... great tyres....:thumb: but if I could get a good 120/60 pirelli or metzeler cheap, I would use them too...

So - down to personal preference I guess.... but...... the OEM's seem to fit 120/70s as standard to the larger capacity bikes and I wonder why:idunno: ?

I would think it's mainly for ease and cost of development.
If you start with a "control" tyre it's one less thing you need to design the rest of the bike to work with.
In the eighties, bikes were coming out with all sorts of different tyre diameters, widths and profiles while manufacturers were trying to find the best compromise. Settling on a "standard" makes life easier for everybody, including the tyre manufacturers and retailers.

Seems a reasonable explanation to me... but why did they fit 120/60 to 600's and 120/70's to litre bikes?

If was just for cost would fit the same tyre to both.. Perhaps it is a case of perceived difference creating perceived value - you know- a more powerful bike needs different tyres, forks/shocks and brakes... and whilst these may help, the biggest difference is probably the mental attitude and general ability of the biker (at least for the general public...)

They didn't. Most 600's also run 120/70 fronts.
Just as some bikes run 190/50 or 190/55 rears some bikes run different fronts.
It could be that they found in testing that a different profile had significant advantages.
It could also be that a tyre manufacturer did a deal with them to produce a particular tyre.

Which wheel are you using?
Did somebody tell you to use 5mm shims or is that what you measured yourself?
These shims are for the axle spacers or the discs?
Without the calipers, the wheel spins fine?
With the calipers mounted centrally over the discs is there a gap between them and the fork legs where they mount?
