Looking at Google images of the NC30 front wheel, it appears to me like the brake disc pattern is the same. What I'm not sure of is all the dimension everywhere else, so I'm unsure which discs you would need.
Not sure on the f3 wheel but nc30 bolt patten would be the same as the early blades I would think.

Thanks for all the replies. Someone else had now said the front wheel from the cbr600 f4 or the 929 blade will fit but these are 3 spoke so I'd hav to change the back wheel too. It's all very confusing I'll give the nc30 wheel a try see what's involved in that then take it from there I think

Hi guys new at this so forgive my ignorance,
I have read this thread from front to back and I'm more confused now than I was before I started, if there is a simple answer out there please could someone tell me lol.
I have a 1998 rrw fireblade and I want to get cracking on with a changing to a 17" front but I'm getting too many variants of the same fix.

Which is best VFR 800, CBR 600f3, or is it the blackbird.
Can I fit my original disc brakes of my fireblade on any of these hubs? This is so I don't have to muck about ordering blackbird discs for my fire blade.

In short I want a simple fix I can just forget about when I've done it, I don't mind putting the work in at the beginning, like milling hubs and making spacers, I just don't want to be ordering fireblade discs in the future and then remembering after I've spent ÂŁ250 I actually forgot I needed blackbird, vfr or cbr 600 discs , cheers guys

I have a 98rrw, if you want to keep your original discs this is how to do it,
Vfr800 front wheel 98-2001 model
M/C 3.5mm off each side of the hub where the discs mount.
Make new wheel spacers 2mm longer than the originals or use 2mm spacers both sides.
Finished. Job done.

The only reason people use blackbird discs is they at shallower than the blade ones so u don't have to do the M/C work.

Wow cheers that was quick,
so it's just the blackbird discs not the wheel as well, and that's just to avoid a bit of machining,
Unless it has detrimental affects on the braking or handling of the bike under braking ( and I think you would of mentioned that if it was the case )to machine the hubs I think I would do that at the same time as getting the spacers done, I don't think that would cost too much either.
I think I would rather do that than ordering parts off different bikes.
How does your bike handle since the change?

I know the vfr800 wheel works and I know the cbr600fx 1999-2003 works if you want to run a 3 spoke wheel.
Forgot to mention that you will need to drop you forks through about 15mm to get the geometry right, the bike handles great, less twitchy and alot more stable at high and low speed but the main reason I did it was for tyre choice and I dint like the way the 130/16 tyres wear! After a few thousand miles of hard riding it turns a triangle shape! A lot worse than a 120/17.

Right thanks for your help, I now have a plan at last I will looking for a front wheel, probably the vfr 800 as I know the measurements already not sure if the cbr600 f3 is the same. But I will see what I can find out there.
Once again thanks, I will let you know how I get on:)

Just to say if you use an f3 wheel your discs will not mount without work, the f3 wheel has a different hole Patten to the 98/99 fireblade wheel, this is why you have to use the vfr800 wheel as it has the same hole Patten as the 98/99 blade.

Hi guys just one more question, if i deside to go with the vfr 800 front wheel 98-2001 model, and also deside to go with the blackbird discs, which model of blackbird discs do I buy or do they all fit
Pre injection discs, just make sure that they are the depth of the diagram I posted, the bird disc are the shallower ones

Sorry here again, I don't suppose any of you know if the spaces from the vfr wheel or the correct length for the blade convertion do you as I may be getting a wheel with the spacers as well
It's 2mm longer than standard blade each side because the vfr bearing and seats are 2 mm shallow to blade ones.

Cheers guys I went with the vfr 800 wheel ÂŁ70 on ebay machined the wheel so I could fit my original discs ÂŁ30 spacers made ÂŁ20, wheels powder coated gloss black ÂŁ50 ( tip if you powder coat your wheels make sure the nob heads plug the bolt holes as mine were not and my disc bolts would no longer fit, a real pain in the arse fixing that )corsa 3 used scrubbed in only 1heat cycle and 8 laps like brand new fitted ÂŁ100, forks dropped 1/2 an inch.

It feels like a new bike much better handling more stable but turns in faster with the higher profile tire and the corsa 3 are amazing I don't no why I did not do this sooner it amazing and I would recommend anyone to do the same

The whole conversion job plus new tires and powder coating cost ÂŁ270

Oh almost forgot, although the brake discs from a 98 blade match the bolt holes on the vfr 800 wheels, one thing that was not mentioned on the forum was the size of the bolt holes of vfr 800 front wheel which are m5 , the 98 blade has m6 threads on the bolts where as the blade bolts are m6, so. Taping the holes with tap and dye set

It's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast

I'm just finishing off a 17" conversion, and noticed some misinformation on this thread. I used a VFR800 wheel, and Blackbird discs from an injection model. This gives almost perfect disc spacing, it's about 0.5mm out on each side. The only thing you need are some longer spacers which I made up on my lathe.

The 93 through the 97 CBR 900RR 16in. Wheel has the 290mm Front Rotors as to the *98/99 CBR 900RR has the 320mm Rotors!!!
The 98/99 Blade uses 310mm discs.

Early blades have a different size brake rotor to 98/99 blades, as well as a different bolt patten
The very first Fireblades (92/93) and the last of the carb'd models (98/99) had the same 78mm PCD and 62mm centre bore (though different disc sizes). Models from 94 to 97 use 74mm PCD and 58mm centre bore.

Pre injection discs, just make sure that they are the depth of the diagram I posted, the bird disc are the shallower ones
The early (1997-1998) Blackbird disc will not fit VFR800 wheels, they have the wrong PCD and centre bore. Discs from the 1999-2008 bikes need to be used, which includes the injection model.

It's probably not been mentioned as no-one else has needed to do this :) My VFR800 wheels use 6mm bolts to secure the disc, as do pretty much all the larger Hondas.
